Has anyone done a BTEC course in photography?

I`m looking at doing a course next year, one that caught my eye was the BTEC qualification, I`m not particuarly looking to use it but thought I`d actually crack on and do something in life....:lol:

I`ve gone through the syllabus, and there`s nothing in there that particuarly scares me. So I thought I`d give it a go.

I feel I need something to drive me, as if I`m left to my own devices, I`ll just meander along and not get anywhere. So regular coursework etc gives me no excuse not to do it! Or that`s the theory...

I`m going on a ten week evening course starting in January, just to get me in the swing of learning stuff again. I`ve been out of an educational enviroment for about fourteen years now.

Im hoping to start a Dimploma course soon and if I cant then I will do next September instead. I would love to make it a career move but will have to see if I am actually any good at it first!

I have just started a two year BTEC National Diploma in photography. Its great and i am learning loads. Feel free to ask any questions, i will be pleased to advise.
 
I haven't, but a 10 week evening course sounds ideal for me, if anything to refresh my mind, and teach me 'properly', and give me some inspiration.
 
I did one of those before doing my BA - very useful and informative - the one I did was at the Berkshire College of Art and Design - BCAD - in Reading - now part of Reading Uni, I believe.
It also helped me get my 'civvi' head back on after 5 years of soldiering in places hot and dusty. The first term was a nightmare for the tutors and some of my fellow students - I was a little...shall we say...'abrupt'...?
My house-mates soon learnt not to steal my food from the fridge tho...lol
 
Haven't done BTEC but have just completed the first year of an A level course. I thought one evening a week for a couple of hours would be a doddle, but I was amazed at the amount of research & study I had to do :eek: I enjoyed it, but it was hard work as I work full time with some strange working hours too.
It all paid off as I got a 90% pass mark though :D Decided not to do the 2nd year due to the amount of work involved and other commitments (ie emigrating).
I don't know how involved the BTEC course is, so it may be worth checking that out before you sign up.
 
With the Btec syllabus, it depends on how high you go but there is a reasonable amount of research involved, including writing an essay on how a given photograper has influenced photography.

TBH, that would be the only bit that would worry me as I`m not particuarly academic!
 
One thing to bare in mind is that Photography falls with "Art & Design" in BTEC/Edexcel terms, so you might find there is some "arty farty" stuff thrown in, but that will depend on where you choose to study and how they choose to tackle it :)

I did a BTEC National Diploma in Media at college and it is a great qualification :) far more practically based than A levels and I highly recommend the qualification ;)
 
They still do a C&G course, so you can`t be that old.......

LOL.
 
I've done a BTEC National in Computing, ahhh those were the days. Lazy , fun filled days :D
