Hi just wondered if any of you have had any dealings with Camerabox. As i'm thinking of buying a new camera and lens from them. Wind blew my tripod over on sunday and smashed my camera and lens:'(

Thanks in advance.

If you do a search in these forums you will find lots have... Can't find much good being said though :(

Just to try and balance that.....

I've used them 4 times and found them very reliable. On every occasion they've delivered next day.

I bought a flash from them before Xmas which has died within the 30 day returns period, emailed them today and had a returns authorisation within the hour for a full refund.

You do need to remember though that they are most definitely greying the products in (most likely from the US) so you warranty will be with them. So the same risks apply as do with other importers of grey kit.

If you want a manufacturers warranty then buy from a reputable UK stockist. But of course you'l pay more.

Just my 2p's worth.

I too have used them and found them to be OK - not great but not bad. Guess it is the luck of the draw

I think the main issue has not been service but the fact that so many people having used them had their credit card cloned. Coincidence? Maybe. Leave you to draw your own conclusions.

£10,600 was taken off mine and the fraud unit are following it up. I have pointed out the coincidences!!!

I recently bought a lens and teleconverter from them. Did get the goods (very late) and they there were ok.

They are rubbish at communicating though, the phone is constantly engaged and they never respond to emails.

I did also find £400's worth of online gambling appear on my credit card within days of using them (after many, many years of never having a single problem).

Draw your own conclusions, but be careful.

I used them, was very impressed with the service at the time.

Didn't realise until some time later that I had been sold a grey import camera - this was not mentioned on their website.

Thats actually a fair point. If you read their FAQ it gets more mysterious:

How does my two-year warranty work?
The first year is covered by the manufacturer. In the first 30 days, return the camera to us for exchange or repair. In the remaining 11 months, the camera is to go back to the manufacturer to be repaired. We can provide this information should you wish. The second year is covered by camerabox, who will liaise with the manufacturer to have the camera repaired at our own expense. In this period, the camera should be returned to us. Warranties cover parts and labour of cameras due to breakdown and do not cover accidental damage.

So I guess you could quite legitimately expect the camera to have a valid UK warranty. I wonder what Nikons take on this would be?

I read their FAQ when buying and the fact that it says 'The first year is covered by the manufacturer' indicates UK warranty.

Thanks guys. Sorry to hear that Ken.:shake: Hope you get it sorted soon.

Thanks - it's sorted in so far as credit card company have recredited my account. In fact they were superb, text me to update on progress, stated no payment due that month nor any interest even on the valid items - they are investigating the various items. I cannot praise them enough. For the record it was a Barclaycard.

When I bought my D700, I asked them if it was a UK model, and they wrote back confirming all their items were sourced in the EU. I went ahead and purchased it. Upon receiving it, I realised it was a Japanese grey import. After some emails backwards and forwards, they agreed to refund me under the distance selling regulations (although I had to cough up for the return postage).

So they are lieing from my experience :(

Very informative thread. I thought I'd read bad stuff about them and have just been browsing for it (how sad am I on NYE???, plenty Cava though). LOL.

I won't be buying off them

Thanks

Lisa

My Christmas present has come from them, a 50D with kit lens.

I haven't told the person who gave it to me but it came with a US charger, I had to make up my own adaptor in order to charge the camera (don't try this at home kids)

Anybody know where to get a US to UK adaptor? My adaptors are all UK to US.

This is wrong in UK its coverd by the seller

Can you expand on this please? Ie which bit is wrong?

The manufacturer state that a product has a specific warranty period and provide information on how to get a warranty repair in the box. With my UK sourced Canon gear I simply follow the instructions Canon provide to get a UK warranty repair - I don't need or want to have to involver the seller within that time.
This is not the case on a grey import - you are forced to rely on the seller.

You still have comeback on the seller due to stipulations in the sale of good act (goods of merchantable quality I think is the part) but this is in addition to the manufacturers warranty.

try looking for a shaver adaptor many of then will work

This has fold out flat blades, will they go in a shaver adaptor?

I used a couple of sheathed female spade connectors a bit of wire and a plug, but the spade connectors leave a section of uncovered blade on the charger so it isn't exactly user friendly.

Yikes! Hundreds of US to UK adapters on EBAY
