Harewood Hillclimb - 9th May

I've seen that the Harewood Estate have a hillclimb running the weekend of the 9th May. I've never tried motorsport photography so thought this would be a good starter.

I wondered if anyone had been to Harewood to see the hillclimb and had any suggestions of where to go on the course, or even whether it is worth going?

Finally, lens recommendations as don't want haul loads around... 70-200 / 400 or 24-105, please not all three!!

Looking at the track map ( http://www.harewoodhill.com/trackmap/ ), you can get quite close to the action so I would suggest that the 24-105 will probably be long enough and the spectator car parks tend to be not too far away from the track so you could have the other lens(es) in the car should you need them. If there's a particular class or car you're interested in, make sure you have the right lens for that... I would also suggest that you have a wander round the paddock (if it's allowed - check with an official and don't get in the way!) and get some detail shots under the bonnets/cowlings. If you have a surf around their site from the link I gave, you'll find a gallery which will show the sort of shots you can hope to get - only you can decide if it's worth going. If you're interested in cars, I would make the trip (if it's not a million miles) - hillclimbing is grass roots motorsport at its best (IMO) and I'll be up at Wiscombe Park that day and the next for some vintage hillclimbing (think Bentleys, Bugattis and the like, all being used as they were designed to be - hard and fast!)
 
You've got no problem getting close to the action at Harewood. I would have thought that your 24-105 and 70-200 would be more than adequate.
It's definitely worth a visit, lovely setting, usually a good entry with a variety of cars, great atmosphere, and some interesting shots to be had.
The paddock is open, and you are free to wander around and check out the cars, which can yield some really good photo opportunities.
As for spots to shoot from, people usually head to the middle level of the track in order that they can see the cars coming through the farm, round the penultimate corner, and up the hill.
However, I usually prefer shooting from the very top of the course, on the last corner, which you can access through the car parking field, or down below the start line, offers more variety of shots.

Thanks for the replies, really helpful and very much appreciated... It's only 30 minutes at most down the M1/A1 for me, so perfect for an early morning and afternoon.
