Just done a topic in the wrong section.....

Anyway I have a freecom 400gb, working fine... now it won't turn on ( as in the power) anyway I can retreive all my memory or get it fixed?

Just to add, I think it might be the case. I put my dock station plug into it, and the blue light showed up but nothing else? any ideas

Could be the case - if you're au fait with computers, and it's compatible, you could install it into your main computer as a secondary drive and get your data back that way.

But if you only have a laptop then you'd have to find someone with an ordinary PC.

.

as peter said, basically the most common failures in external hard drives is the enclosure. if you can get the disk out and into a computer or replace the enclosure you stand a good chance of getting your data back.

oh and by the way, its best not to plug other power supplies into things theyre not supplied with. youve got different voltages and current requirements for each device and plugging a lead in that supplies more than it needs can cause damage :)

If it's just the case electronics that's failed you could try removing the hard drive and placing the drive in an external enclosure.

If you get your images back t may be worthwhile considering looking at backup options.

I have a pc, but have no idea on how to do it! I'm taking it into pc world today to see if its the adaptor or hardrive its self!

Mine did this si just fitted it inside the pc instead :-)
