Hard drive

I must say we do get through portable hard drives at an alarming rate, but they are used alot for imaging client machines, and then I transport them in my cycle bag, so probably my own fault. :(

shouldnt do, i carry 2 seagate non-rugged portable drives around with me 5 days a week and theyve been going for years.

they are transported within a padded CD wallet case within a padded laptop bag.

Well, an external hd is a good idea, but unfortunately you can NEVER get a 100% secure one, no matter what people say to you. People just recommend whatever brand they have themselves, but all brands fail. Many recommend Western Digital.. I have had 3 and all died very unexpectedly after 2-3 months. Most people don't recomend Seagate, but I have never had any problems with Seagate.. Anyway, all hd's fail, unless you use SSD's. They are however VERY expensive to use for storage.
A better alternative, if security is your priority, would be to use online storage.
I use LiveDrive as they are stable and have lot's of features for accessing the files from anywhere.

They are not the cheapest, but again, if security is a priority, I would take a look...

as discussed before online storage is great if you dont have that much data and a fast upload speed (like that of BT infinity or virgin fibre).

i wouldnt like to try and upload TB's of photos, or download them for that matter. i'll stick to blu-ray off site that is a 2 hour round trip away.
