Hard drive noise

All of a sudden I have a noise that sounds like a crane fly flapping about inside the case coming from a hard drive any ideas?

Possibly a dying harddrive. Get anything you feel is valuable copied to another drive ASAP.

crane fly flapping around kinda sounds like something catching one of the cooling fans.

might be worth poping the case open and checking for stray cables and/or clumps of dust in all of the fans.

That was the prob Niel a small blak wire has snapped off at the root of it's connector and was dangling in front of the rear fan. Just got to find where it's come from now, nothing has stopped working???

It could possibly be one of the wires for the fan - possibly the one that sends the fan speed to the motherboard.

I think it may be from the card reader which is something I never use so I wouldn't have noticed it not working. The cable is from between the dvd drive and the card reader which is working okay.
