The Ricoh 500GX which I got for £5.19 of evilbay arrived today.

The ad said

"Camera and lens.
good addition to any collection"

Well its a camera and lens alright but not attached to a shutter button nor does it have the ability to wind film on. Can people not tell if a camera is knackered? Isn't it obvious that there is no shutter button?

Good job it was only cheap.

Andy

bizzare. how can one break off the shutter button and the winder on this camera. I doubt if the shutter itself is there....someone has canibalised it to fix another one, and sold off the junk.

You should leave a neative feedback. The seller had a responsibility to describe it properly in the listing

Now, its time you buy a real good one...:p

I'll give them a chance to refund first before I send the boys round I think, they may not know anything about older cameras I suppose.

Anyone know where there's a good one for sale? ;)

So, what are you hiding? Do you know of a good one, if so where? Spill the beans or I fetch the thumbscrews

Andy

OK maybe an over-reaction, however I may be forced to use the COMFY CHAIR if info is not forthcoming.

Yeah - or a VF at least if not

Got some nice little Konicas if you want to borrow a camera Andy...

Bloody hell.... how did you slip that in there I only looked 10 minutes ago. OK at the risk of angering she who must be obeyed I may linger a little longer in the classifieds.

Cheers

Andy

That looks to me like a definite no brainer...

shut up Arthur, every one should do their own digging:p

P.S : Konicas are worse that Bigyin's pinhole. and god knows what arthur has modded them to..:D:lol:

Konicas are wonderful little beasties Mr Dey - go look at a few early Konishiroku offerings!

And all my Konicas are drop-dead standard - and better for it!

Now now arthur, even you cant add a David Bailey button to a Konica....:lol:

Seriously, I had the S2 - lovely camera and lens. I wish i had kept it. What do you have as the smallest Rangefinder . S2 was a bit bigger...

I got the S2 auto here and yes, bit of a brick I'll grant you. I have a rainbow of Pops mind, and a POP AF which is novel... who needs RF

To be fair, the best little Konica I have would be the C35EF3, excellent but no RF for you. That's closely followed by the C35-V, again no RF but beautiful all the same.

I think the problem is that most modern cameras are fairly similar whereas with the older cameras each had its own style and they look much cooler and sexier than modern ones. Its very easy to get hooked on them and buy them just because they look nice. Ah well its only money and they don't put pockets in a shroud.

Andy

:bat:And what, pray tell, is WRONG with my PINHOLE camera ? :bat:

Apart from having to count elephants and having only a passing aquaintance to a viewfinder, and being a horrible cheap nasty bit of plastic, its a belting camera.

I'm reading this and taking notes you know...

You should get your money back, the item is clearly not as described. If the seller refuses to pay up take it up as a paypal dispute (assuming you paid that way) I know it's only a small amount of money but people shouldn't be getting away with it.

I had exactly the same situation with an Olympus 35 RC the other week, I paid hat was a fair price for a camera in good nick as described. It arrived filthy dirty dented and rusty, fair play to the seller he refunded imediately with postage but I was still miffed as I've been on the hunt for ages!

I had a message back this morning saying it was obvious it didn't have a shutter button but that they would try and resolve the situation. There was 1 head on image and if you didn't know the camera you would not have known there was no shutter button.
Anyway, I responded asking for a full refund and am waiting a response.

Andy

And the hunt begins again...... lol

Andy

Not at all Andy, the RC is a keeper. At least thats the plan. If the Rollei 35 doesn't sell, I might sell the RC and keep the Rollei instead

Now now arthur, even you cant add a David Bailey button to a Konica....:lol:

My guess will be that the first one will have a stuck shutter - these ones are known for that problem, though to be fair, its a DIY fix

The second seller is in a la-la-land of his own.

Well I've just had a message from the seller of the duff Ricoh who has offered a full refund and said I can keep the camera as well. Result.
I've left positive feedback as its nice that it was settled amicably and quickly.
So what do I do with a busted Ricoh then?

Andy

I think I'll take it to bits to see how it works, you never know i might learn something.

.. or see how it doesn't work I guess :D

Nice comfy chair, table, Ricoh on table, selection of small tools, camera on tripod with remote, take it all to bits, take pics of everything and post a beginners guide to DIY Ricoh repairs.

Dave.

Trouble is I tried to dissassemble it last night and can't get 2 of the screws out, b*ggered up a watchmakers screwdriver trying.

Andy

Oh no, just find it useful to have a set of very small screwdrivers.

Andy

No I'm afraid time and I have an uneasy relationship. I always hate being late but time too often conspires to make me so. :)

Besides I can't afford to have to expensive hobbies.....
