What can the good old folks on here tell me about this lens?
I'm thinking its a preset lens and may be a 12 blade variant but what's the quality like?
I've read in places that Hanimex were a bit hit and miss for optics.

Back in the day Hanimex were producers of very low end budget photographic equipment but if you put it on ebay and put the word vintage somewhere in the description you probably get more than the £12-£15 that this lens is worth.

I thought that may be the case, thanks for confirming.

The Japanese camera industry is very confusion as it's difficult to find out who made what, subcontracting, who made the glass, who constructed the optics and so on..........So Hanimex was a front name for lenses and it's all hit and miss for a VG\poor lenses. The only Hanimex lens I've picked up was a 28mm and it's absolute crap (which equaled my Osawa 28mm, maybe Osawa made the Haninex 28mm)....... but your 135mm might be a good one.
If you want a 135mm lens best to stick to ones recommended but even then you could get a friday afternoon lens because of copy variation.

All I know is its made in Japan and the shape is reminiscent of the lenses with big blade count but that means diddly for the optical performance.

If you take a shot of the lens and show it on some forums, sometimes the guys have similar lenses by different "front" names, and the real experts might even be able to tell by the lens number who actually made it e.g. Tokina...if you are interested enough you could post on google "who made my ***** lens or whatever. But the proof of the pudding is in the eating and if it takes great shots, who cares who made it.
Even some E German lenses have "made in Japan" stamped on the back of the lens...and even Nikon had subcontracted some lenses out, and maybe some one can correct me but IIRC Zeiss|leitz had co-operated with the Japanese....maybe they still do.

i have a halix? or something 135mm with balm failure, but its still sharp :o

I have owned that lens and used it on my Fuji Xpro-1 and the copy I had was very good with nice contrast and very sharpe. As been said there was probably different manufactures used for different batches. Tokina used to make a lot of the old lenses.

Another one to look out for is the Vivitar lenses some of these are crackers especially some of the Komine versions with serial number starting at 28. Linky > https://www.cameraquest.com/VivLensManuf.htm

Also forgot to add, a lot of these companies were just distributors of lenses, like Vivitar mentioned above, so you can get some good lenses for cheap money. Worth having a look on the MFL forum > http://forum.mflenses.com/

If you want a cheap 135mm f2.8 blow this crappy thing out and go for a Soligor 135mm f2.8 M42 mount. I have two that I paid less than a tenner each for. Both are 37 starting serial numbers and are made by Sun. I have over 80 MF lenses and this thing is one of the best, incredibly sharp with great colours, I wont be selling either of them ever! M42 is a great mount with s***loads of cheap adapters,

Can't recommend it highly enough:)

Steve.

@Roberts

Roberts! Roberts! there appear to be young people in here talking about some sort didjitel camera or some such preposterous nonsense.. And they want to use some of our old lenses on the wretched things.... Throw them into the street, there's a good fellow. :sleep: Oh and fetch me a brandy.....

We're being invaded the Wraith are coming :eek:
