hand held macro

Hi
Just need some advice.

i'm using a camera with Raynox DCR-250 macro lens, how is it possible to shoot an insect hand-held while keeping subject in focus.
When i use tripod i use my manfrotto macro rail.

someone said to turn off the AF but i'm not sure this will help.

Any ideas?

Light!! You'll need plenty to keep shutter speeds high at small apertures and you'll need to using small apertures to keep the DOF usable. Ring flash, twin light or a homebrew setup is a must even in "good" light if you're going handheld.

I always use MF as AF can be very unpredictable with such a narrow DOF, far better to get your focus spot on manually then use small movements of the camera itself to get / keep specific areas in focus. Live view helps enormously (especially if it goes to 10x mag).
