Just out of interest how many of you are still using Hammer head Flash guns...I just dug out my old ones and tested there voltage and I was pleasantly surprised the trigger voltage is only 4.5volts....Took a few shots with the Nikon and Fuji cameras and the exposure is spot on...It makes me wonder just how many people who have older flashguns laying around doing nothing ..when they could be using them

I used to use a couple of sunpak 555 flashes for remote strobes. They were great - 1/4"-20 thread mount on the bottom of the handle, nice powerful output, great light spread and fast durations. Pretty much perfect off camera flash for action photography.

Yup, I've got 3 or 4 Sunpak 622 kits with all the available heads including IR, ring, diffusion and a couple of bare bulbs and the coloured filters.

You don't want to trust the threaded boss in the handle too many times -- I use the camera bracket, repositioned as high up the handle as possible.

They take "C"-cells, and the NiMH battery capacity is 6000mAH or more. They get expensive, so I also use sleeve adapters for AA rechargeables.

Well from now on I wil be keeping the Nissin twin in my kit bag..well happy with it

I've a couple of Metz 45 Hammer heads, NOT the CT model which is not compatible. They work fine as portable flash units, I've used them in a couple pub gig shoots using wireless triggers and home made pot diffusers.
You can use them in auto mode but are not ETTL even with the adaptor, you need the Metz 45 Digital for that.
They are flash number 45, unlike my Canon 430, which is about 35 at 50mm, they chew up the NiCad battery packs, but I have two for each which gives me a evenings shoot.

Just out of curiosity do you no the trigger voltages of the Metz ?

Off hand no, but I went onto the Metz web site and checked the compatibility on their table of flash guns etc; the CL if I recall correctly is O.K, the CT is not.
Most times I fire them with the cheap wireless remotes and they just fine.

OK cheers...

I have three, two 45 CL4's and a 45 CL4 digital. They are extremely flexible, especially the digital due to the twin tube set up. I've been using twin tube guns for over 20 years and find single tube guns to be too harsh.

I'd love for Canon to bring out a twin tube dedicated gun, that would probably be the only reason i would move away from the Metz guns.

I have a metz 45 in the attic and was very surprised when I did dust it off and use it recently at how nice the results were trouble is its just too big too carry around

well I think mines going to stay in my kit bag from now on
