Lewis Hamilton and McLaren have been stripped of all their points from the Melbourne GP, Jarno Trulli has been re-instated back into 3rd place.

Might as well not bother watching any more races now as the results can be amended days later. :cuckoo::bonk::thumbsdown:
 
And it can all change again if they decide that the diffusers on the Brawns are rule breaking.

I don't get the technicalities of this ... but since Hamilton / McLaren are not going to protest this then I guess they are in agreement to the ruling.

My only question is ... what was it that they did which mislead the panel initially :shrug:

I've always supported Hamilton / McLaren; but this year I'm backing Brawn .. simply for their guts and balls.
 
Basically, the penalty is for lying to the stewards and the race director after the race. Lewis told the stewards that he did not deliberately let Jarno Trulli pass him. He also told the stewards that the reason that he'd slowed down as if he was going to retire was because he was looking at his dashboard and not the track.

However, just minutes before talking to the stewards, Lewis told Adam Cooper and a tv crew live on Speed TV that the team had instructed him to pass Trulli.

Trulli had told the stewards that Hamilton had gone so slowly that he thought he was in trouble, and the FIA Sporting regulations allow a driver to pass another car behind the safety car if he believes it to have a problem.

The stewards have now listened to all of the radio transmissions and concluded that a certain WDC was not telling the truth. In fact, Trulli's communications are available on the internet at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OohT1HbaEF0 (or they will be until the FIA pull them).

Do you have refs for that Suzanne? I have not seen the "looking at the dashboard" quote.

It's something that came today and relates to the original hearing - Hamilton told the stewards that he was distracted because he was looking at his dashboard display. At the moment Auto Motor und Sport and ITV are reporting that conversation and it is cropping up elsewhere too. Until we get full details from the FIA virtual Media Centre (probably another figment of Maxxx's imagination) then it's hard to confirm exactly what the context was.

Wail I'm the same, I think it would be excellent to see Button win the Championship. Hopefully this year, with this car, is his time to shine.

I would be supporting Ferrari, but my love for Mercedes goes back to when I was really young. So much so, that I am very biased towards Mercedes and AMG.

My loyalty to Mercedes goes down really deep .. and it is the only car manufacturer I'd support all over the place. You just can't imagine how wonderful it is for someone like me to see them back in auto-racing.

Of course, I may change to Ferrari if my financial abilities grow exponentially and I become more capable to afford their sexy machines.

I would still be supporting Hamilton had it not been for the circumstances that pushed Brawn into the limelight. Some are in F1 for strategic purposes, some for technical, some for the two ... very few are in it for the passion of motorsport ... and Brawn have shown to be the most passionate of the whole bunch. Win or lose, it's irrelevant to me .. I neither own nor sponsor any of those racing .. but seeing true automotive passion is priceless :thumbs:
 
I'm a big fan of formula one. But it really annoys me that the stewards and the FIA get involved far too much. Would be nice if they made their decisions more public and the evidence they get. I mean, why did it take them this long to do it? Perhaps check it all before they penalised trulli in the first place.

At least they managed to level the Mclaren - Ferrari battle now taking all the points of them! :P (Not Ferrari obviously as they didn't score :D)

I'm a massive Hamilton fan, but if he cant win it this year. I would love to see Button take it.
 
Brundle nailed it----they told fibs. Pity as 4th place would still have been a great drive.Serves them right.

with the new transcriptions and turns of events this is one decision i agree with, dont lie.

from what i can see

-trulli runs off the track and hamilton passes him
-team instruct hamilton to let him back past (as they go and thumb through the rule book)
-due to the manner that hamilton let him past trulli appears to have been in the right to overtake him as he appeared to have a problem as he was so slow)
-Mclaren realise this and decide to bend some rules in order to protest this to recover the 'extra points' they gifted to trulli
-days later they get found out!

I say get rid of car to pit communications .F1 is not about the drivers anymore ,it's more about what goes on around them ,i mean ,stewards could decide a world championship for Christ sake.Bring in the likes of the Niki Lauda ,Martin brundle etc... to run F1 .Because the idiots just now are going to be the end of it ,period !!!!:thumbs:
 
So Truli went off the track Lewis passes him legitametly, then lets him back through because Mclaren know that Ferrari International Autosport will do all they can to nail them, Lewis lets him through because of this uncertainty. All comes down again to teams not having faith in the FIA to make fair decisions.
Would Lewis's 3rd have stood if he hadn't yielded to Truli ??
I am so glad Brawn have popped up but I fear they will be next on the FIA hit list otherwise Ferrari have no chance !!
 
Why has every one started to mention Ferrari in this thread, they did not make a protest over this, they did not tell lies to the officials, that was McLaren lying again, just as they did saying they knew nothing about stealing Ferrari files.

The trouble with F1 is that there are far to many niggling little rules. They should scrap the entire rule book and start again. I do agree with a TOTAL ban of pit to car radio transmissions.

OH and there has been a little talk that Hamilton / McLaren may thrown out for the entire season over this.

Agree on the Ferrari bit, but it has been mentioned and is the casr that Mclearn are in breach of 'article 151c of the International Sporting Code' the exact same dporting code that got them kicked out before with Ferrari. Depends weather it get sent to the World motorsport council.
 
Totally agree, do fingers crossed there let be, rule the deffusers illegal from after the next race like the mass dampers (if there going to declear and clarify the rules) and let the racing be racing again.

But part of me cant help but feel that wont be the case, it seems at times F1 isnt happy unless it headline news regardless of what the news is, and we all know badnews or bitching sells better then good.

Mind you, the FIA are broke so any excuse to screw a few million from McLaren will be taken.

That idiot of a driver Williams have (the little jap fella) is FAR more worthy of the FIA's attention. He was a danger to himself and everyone else on track on sunday! (just as Sato used to be)

And now Rubens has a five place penalty for the Malaysian start due to having changed gearboxes.

I thought the gearbox change resulted in the back of grid start position. Now they clobber him again.

Obviously not enough red paint on the car :(

I dont get part of your arguement there about getting getting clobbered twice if he was sent to the back, he cant move 5 places back after.

Any-way isnt it 5 places back for a gearbox, and to the back for an engine change?

Cant see how not having red paint has anything to do with that, simple rule is change the gear box or engine outside of spec change interval your hit.

Any see Mclearn have there scapegoat, that force Hamilton to lie to the stewards, and Hamilton has been cought speeding in both free practice seasons so far. Talk about keeping the team in the headlines or what.
 
He started from the back in Australia due to the box change. Exactly as it should be. Now, he's been awarded a 5 place penalty on the Malaysian starting grid.

Penalised twice. That can't be right.
 
Rubens Started from second in Australia, but bog down on the startline, that was one of the causes for the first corner incident.

Hamilton was dropped 5 place in Australia for a gear box change, the Toyotas where sent to the back for rear wing infridgements

I am just curious ... what is it that made the McLaren team lie? Did they not realise that they would be investigated and the audio come out in the enquiry .. or am I missing something?
