I'm looking at getting a bigger camera bag, and would like to hear from anyone with a Hama Daytour 230.
I have a kata 3n1 pl 25 and while its a good bag and is fine for a dslr and some lenses fitting everything I want to take with me just isn't going to work. So, anyone wanting to share their thoughts ?

Its a fantastic bag, the top section can carry camera+lens, two - three other lenses, filters, all manner of cards, it comes with a waterproof cover, its super comfortable.

Its so versatile. I would give it 4 out of 5 stars. It loses one star *** i think it should have extra partitions but thats just me :)

I got one of these off eBay a couple of weeks ago. It's my first proper camera bag, so I don't have anything to compare it to, but I've been very happy with it so far.

I like that it is in two compartments. Right now, all my gear (one camera, three lenses) fits into the bottom (smaller) section, leaving the top half for other items.

There's lots of nooks and crannies for all the little things, and there's a nice tripod holder and a built in rain cover.

The best thing? It's super comfortable to wear. I did a few miles with it the other day and it was soon forgotten about. Very impressed.

Cam.

Sounding good, thanks. :)

I like the dual compartments as that'll let me take both cameras with me or just take one and have plenty of room for other stuff.

Any idea if a 7d with sigma 150-500 would fit in the top section, leaving the bottom compartment free ?

I have a 400D and a Sigma 70-300 and that fits in the bottom compartment, so I have no doubt your combo would fit in the top. The inside is made up of positionable dividers so you can lay it out to suit your stuff.

Thanks. I don't have a 150-500 but hope to pick one up sometime this year. I think it's too long, as the lens itself is 25cm. The bag fits everything I have just now though so I'll have to give it some thought.

Thanks. Is that just the top compartment, with enough room for another camera in the bottom one ?

Thanks to Cam and Robert for your help. I've managed to find one for just under £78 inc next day delivery so went for it and it should be with me soon.

I'll find out if a 150-500 fits if I ever manage to get one. :)

Great! It would be interesting to hear your thoughts on it once you've received it.

I finally got around to trying my kit in the Daytour 230, and have summarised some thoughts below. :)

The 5d2 / 24-70 fits through the quick access opening of the top compartment while the 7d / 70-300vc just squeezes in the quick access hatch of the lower section.
Unfortunately the 5d2 seems too wide to fit in this side entrance to the lower compartment, so I don't have the flexibility I had hoped for.

There is less padding than that offered by lowepro and kata backpacks I've had before. It seems adequate enough but isn't as soft/thick.The overall build quality of the bag is good, it does feel solid and well made. The full length top compartment panel opening on the back is well implemented. The bottom of the bag has a rubberised coating where it would touch the ground.

The spaces either side of the camera lens in the top compartment are restricted in their use slightly by the curvature of the bag. For example my cokin square filters (in their original individual plastic holders) fit at the bottom of the top compartment but not higher up at the sides because it becomes shallower higher up.

The external top side pockets are kind of flush with the sides of the bag but stretch out when there's stuff in them, which is good in a way as it's easier to squeeze stuff in but it does offer less protection and means that the edges of the filter boxes I've put in them jut out a bit. Not much of a problem but I'd rather have had an extra couple of cm of 'loose' space in the side pockets before they had to stretch.
The pocket on the side of the bottom compartment is useful when open as it's got a retaining 'net'. However it can't fit much in it at all if you want to put items in and close it over.

Overall though it does offer much better value for money than the kata 3n1-25PL I have. I doubt anyone without knowledge of the cost of branded camera bags would think the Kata was twice as expensive. I still haven't found the 'perfect' camera bag for me, but I'm closer than I was before buying the Daytour 230.

Hi,

I'm also interested in this bag. A few questions, I hope the owners and first hand users can answer.

1) Can the top part accommodate a body with grip? I have a D600 with MB-D14 grip. Also can it fit through the top opening access?

2) Will a body with grip fit the bottom compartment too? Thinking if my D7000 with MB-D11 can go in it.

3) How big is the bag, judging from the dimensions give from the Hama website it's not really that big, but I'm hoping someone can post a picture with it being worn. This way it can give me a good idea of how the bag looks like.

4) I saw that it has rear side access to the top compartment and has a belt strap. Without removing the belt strap and taking off the straps from your shoulders, can you turn the backpack towards the front supported by waist strap and access your gears..ala Lowepro Flipside 300 and 400AW bags.

5) Is the belt strap hideable when not in use? Can it be removed?

I'm really looking for bag that has rear side access (i have Lowepro Flipside 300) and wish to add side or top quick access feature.

So far all other bags that have rear access I'm looking at are:
1) Vanguard Skyborne 51 (looks bulky)
2) Vanguard Uprise 45 (older V1 version)
3) ClickElite Contrejour 35 (but it's too big)
4) New -> Caselogic DSB-101 Luminosity Medium (can not do Flipside feature)

Thanks in advance.

Hi rexb, welcome to the forum.

Hi,

I'm also interested in this bag. A few questions, I hope the owners and first hand users can answer.

1) Can the top part accommodate a body with grip? I have a D600 with MB-D14 grip. Also can it fit through the top opening access?
I can't fit my 5dmk2 through the top access hatch with the bg-e6 grip fitted.
Because the top of the bag starts angling inwards quite low down there's not much room to have a camera with grip pointing the lens 'down' into the bag.
I had really wanted to avoid getting something as big as a lowepro vertex 200aw or tamrac expedition 6x but if I want to take my cameras with grips fitted then I'll need to look into getting one. As it is though, the bag is perfectly fine with a 5dmk2 with lens fitted, 430 ex2 flashgun or spare lens, compact camera and couple of filters in the top and a 7d with 70-300 lens fits in the bottom.
2) Will a body with grip fit the bottom compartment too? Thinking if my D7000 with MB-D11 can go in it.
My 7D is a snug fit in the bottom height wise. There's insufficient height for it if there was a grip fitted.
3) How big is the bag, judging from the dimensions give from the Hama website it's not really that big, but I'm hoping someone can post a picture with it being worn. This way it can give me a good idea of how the bag looks like.
The bag's really not that big. It's great for one dslrs or fine for 2 dslrs and some accessories but start adding camera grips etc..and you're looking for something bigger.
4) I saw that it has rear side access to the top compartment and has a belt strap. Without removing the belt strap and taking off the straps from your shoulders, can you turn the backpack towards the front supported by waist strap and access your gears..ala Lowepro Flipside 300 and 400AW bags.
I've never tried this so can't comment.
5) Is the belt strap hideable when not in use? Can it be removed?
It can't be removed and as far as I've managed can't be hidden anywhere. I'll likely cut it off my bag as I never use waist straps.
