It is legit as when I click to sign in on the usual site it links to what i thought was the dodgy one.

I can confirm this is legit.

So how do you find that info?

The truth is in the IP addresses...

halifax-online has 4 addresses in DNS - 2 for one data centre and 2 for another.

If you try and hit one of the IP address directly you'll get a certificate error:

From my machine I'm getting this address ...

https://62.172.43.225/_mem_bin/formslogin.asp?source=halifaxcoukHOME

This tells you the Security signed cert is invalid for the URL you've entered.

This gives you added trust that the IP address you've resolved from a URL address is correct - and the content is genuine

LOL I remember reading something a while ago about it happening, but plum forgot until I went to sign in yesterday

Don't worry Mal, definately better safe than sorry, even if they have been warning us for weeks it was about to happen ;)

On the other hand, in the last 2 weeks alone, I have had my Egg on-line banking account suspended until I resolve security issues, my HSBC bank account needed its security information updated and my Lloyds tsb account require confirmation.....well, according to my emails anyway, which is quite amazing as I dont actually have accounts with any of them. :bonk:

Just never noticed the advance warnings, I just nip in and out of my account quickly to check what has gone in and out.

Strange how some get these regularly, I have only ever had one phishing attempt, and that was for an American bank.
