Where are the UN Peace keeping troops? If there are 7000 in Haiti as stated here

has anyone seen any sign of them in Port Au Prince? via any of the media broadcasts? ... I haven't

There where a lot of people wearing blue berry (I know that it isn't spelt that way) all over the un building on this mornings report - but that is the only place we seen them... what we cannot understand - was it true the Dominican republic where not allowing helper from the uk etc cross the boarder into Haiti? or did we hear that wrong...

remember - every little penny helps - www.dec.org.uk

I would rather pay them than the uk banks and banker bonus and don't get me started on mp's expenses

Doing what they are there for according to various news sites, keeping the peace, which frees others for the job of finding and helping victims.

The UN is doing the same fantastic job that it did it stopping the genocide in Rwanda, basically nothing. The UN is probably the biggest waste of time and money known to modern "civilisation".

Yes.

They need help to deal with it, not somebody to do it for them

So, people who have nothing, struggling to get basic provisons such as water food etc, possibly injured should dig out family, friends neighbours etc. whilst Highly trained, highly paid, well fed and watered foreign troops sit on their arse and do nothing to help people trapped in collapsed buildings with the stench of dead people all around them :cuckoo:

Nice try ;) I don't get wound up that easily! .....

If the cretins in New York had listened to the people on the ground, months before, they could have stopped Rwanda. But they were to busy lining thier back pockets, over staffed, over exposed and over rated idiots, the whole lot of them.

Frac Gets off soapbox........:)

They didn`t pull out initially, they would not provide the manpower needed to avert what was going to happen.Shame there was no oil under there!

This thread is probably going to get shut down soon, people don't like the truth

I agree, they didn't! but I can still see the images of the so called safe camps that they were encouraged to stay in ... Then the last of the troops left leaving the locals in a place of no escape and just waiting to be butchered ... which they were ....

The UN doing nothing:

He said that the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) still had its police and military command structures intact, however, and was able to maintain law and order. There was little unrest as yet; people had remained relatively calm and patient. He hoped that would continue. He confirmed that the main prison had collapsed, but that didn’t seem to be the greatest concern at this point. In any case, the 3,000 troops in the capital, Port-au-Prince, which sustained the major part of the damage, might be reinforced with troops now stationed elsewhere in the country.

MINUSTAH was also helping to remove bodies and rubble, and provide some assistance with the distribution of supplies, though the small amounts of such distributions occurring now were also being done by local and international non-governmental organizations who were already on the ground and worked with the United Nations.

He said that, although the Government realized it had the ultimate responsibility for disaster recovery, its capabilities were severely affected. The Minister of the Interior was meeting this afternoon with humanitarian actors, however.

In terms of opening up better transportation into Haiti, he said the United Nations and United States were looking into quick repairs that could be made to port facilities. In addition, air-shuttle routes through Miami and Santo Domingo would probably be soon established.

So aside from providing law and order support, sorting through rubble and bodies, repairing the infrastructure, working with the US and other organisations including the Haitian government and distributing supplies they're doing nothing.

You are basing your opinions on media scourced articles,i`m basing mine on experience.

Not only Rwanda iam afraid, there was dozens of conflict only in the past decade and United Nothing did absolutely NOTHING to stop them.
BTW i wonder how many of you knew UN chief`s name before the quake?
