Despite only having the camera 6 months, and being extremely careful to the point of being anal, I seem to have got 2 hairs and a speck of dust inside my camera, which I can see through the viewfinder. :(

I've tried the automated sensor cleaning thing, cleaning the outside of the viewfinder, and I've tried blowing inside the camera with a rocket blower, I've even tried the mirror lock up and gently blowing on the sensor with the blower, but it's just not shifting.

It doesn't seem to be affecting the pictures, I've taken several pictures with a white background and I can't see any lines or abnormalities on the pictures, but as I'm someone whose fussy about my possessions, it's extremely annoying.

Is there anything else I could try bearing in mind that I'm not comfortable with the idea of poking about inside the camera, or is it a matter of put up with it or pay to have it professionally cleaned?

Any info would be very much appreciated.

If you can see them in the viewfinder, the hairs are almost certainly on the focus screen. Whilst blowing inside with the rocket blower, wipe over the focus screen with a soft make up brush, then thoroughly blow out the whole mirror box with the lens mount facing down.. BUY A NEW BRUSH for this purpose.. don't borrow one of your wife's or something :) You won't do any harm by gently brushing over the focus screen.

Incidentally, crap on the focus screen will not be on your images.

I would suggest trying a Rocket Blower - you can usenit to blow clean air into the viewfinder.

I would usually hold the camera so the sensor is facing down and carefully try to aim the jet of air at the viewfinder. It may just move the hairs about, but usually it gets them off of where they're in the way!

Its a handy tool for cleaning lens and the sensor too :-)

They'll most likely be on the focus screen or the inside of the viewfinder. Can you not remove the focus screen and try blowing them out?
Be very careful when handling the screen, they're very easily marked.

Hello David, thanks for your reply. Is the focus screen the 'cloudy' bit of glass nearest the viewfinder?

I'd try cleaning it without removing it frst. Blower while brushing with a very clean (preferably new) soft make up brush, then tip the camera lens opening down and blow it out thoroughly.

Removing the focusing screen isn't something I'd do as routine cleaning. I've always managed to get crap off the focusing screen without resorting to that. Any grease from your fingers gets on that focus screen and it's a total git to shift.

I was very careful when cleaning mine and i now have only 4 of the focus lights working properly the rest seen blown out and i have a smudge right in the corner of the screen, my recombination would not be to touch it at all and just try and use compressed air being careful no propellant comes out. And my camera is only a month old waiting to how much the repair will be!!!

Compressed air is a big NO.
The propellant will come out and will go onto the screen. A Rocket Blower, or similar is the only way to blow air into the mirror box.
