Haggis!!!!!

I hope I'll like it. I like most other offal based food.

Although, if you're ever in france and 'Aundouilette' is on the menu, avoid it. The french will say that it's very special and a distinctly french taste, but I've not met an unFrench person who likes it.

a friend of mine has had some French colleagues over at work, one of them is a very attractive girl of about 25, when they went for lunch a buffet had been arranged, he watched her pick up a pork pie with some curiosity, she lifted the lid off and looked inside :gag:then looked around the room then chucked it in the bin.

Pig pie must be a British thing :D

never tried it, and didnt fancy it, given the ingredients.
but it seems like a lot of people like it.
were on about a motorcycling long weekend in scotland in august/september.
looks like i'll have to give ot a go.

You'll probably really enjoy it. Every single person I've met over the years, no matter how uncertain they've been about eating haggis has absolutely loved it. When I was a postgraduate student in Edinburgh the (large) flat upstairs had 2 Frenchies, a Yank, a Brazilian and a German sharing. We introduced them to the delights in a Glenlivet and Laphroig drenched Burns Supper, but even in sobriety they would get a haggis every week from Finlays butchers in Portobello High Street (best in Scotland!) and slice and cook it in the microwave!

Slianthe!

Fried battered haggis used to be on the menu in several chippys in West Cumbria - very tasty too!! :D

I love haggis. Not much of it about in the SW though except for mass produced glupe in a plastic bag made by Halls :(

Whenever I go to Scotland then, until I've had either a haggis supper or black pudding supper + a bottle of Iron Bru from the chip shop, I've not really arrived yet :)

Does anyone actually eat tripe? There is a reason that it's anoth word for rubbish! ;)
Yup, sad to say I love it. Tripe & onions slowly cooked in milk sauce with mashed potatoes … yum yum. Now my wife (Lancastrian!) says they (Lancsastrians) eat tripe raw with malt vinegar ….. .but that’s just weird doncha think :cuckoo:?

Halls isn't that bad considering. A lot of supermarkets do the McSweens, can you not get them down your way?

Afraid we seem to be McSweenless in Somerset

Had some Halls (which I've had before and it was OK) just after New Year (supermarket mark-down) and I think that that particular wee beastie gave itself up poor thing.

.
Try Marks and Spencer - we've got a couple of their 'limited edition' haggises. They look pretty good - the meat is held in a proper cawl rather than a plastic one. I wouldn't be surprised if they were made by someone like Mcsweens on their behalf. Though I'm prepared to be told otherwise...

We did have one of their standard haggises last weekend. That was OK, though could have done with being a touch spicier. I have high hopes for the limited edition ones...

Cheers

Mark
