Forgive me if this has been done before...............

The Whisky thread has prompted me to ask what people think about Haggis. I am not Scottish and have never been to Scotland, but a few years ago, a Scottish colleague brought some into work for people to try. I couldn't wimp out so I had a try and loved it. So the questions are:

Do you eat Haggis?

If you do, how do you eat it?

If you have never tried it, would you do so, given the opportunity?

Last year we tried it in a different way and made Shepherd's Pie with it. Absolutely delicious! :clap:
 
I actually think haggis is yum! It has to be eaten with bashed neeps and tatties!!

I am now vegataian though and you can usually get really good vegatarian versions.....although those with peanut allergies should take care!!
 
i Live in Aberdeen and am married to a scottish woman. It is delicious and I try not to think about where it came from or whats in it....:)
 
I love Haggis, but haven't had it in ages. I usually have it with Sliced potatoes with cheese sauce baked in the oven so the tops of the potoatoes goes all crispy. Yummy.
 
Get a proper one from the butcher that is made properly and wrapped in natural material rather than plastic. Ask if you can get one from the longer leg side (the meat is more tender on that side). Cooked with neeps (Scottish turnip which is English swede) and tatties and served with a nice rich onion gravy - a meal worth having.

You can get McSween's haggis from supermarkets down here, which are wrapped in natural material. The Hall's one's are actually quite good given that they are wrapped in plastic though.
 
The only time I've had haggis was on a trawler boat off the Isle of Man in a bacon, sausage and haggis sandwich - it was bloomin' lovely :)

Living with a scottish lad this year at Uni so we'll all be eating haggis on Burns night

I love haggis, we have friends in scotland and when they come down to see us or we go up we get ordinary haggis and white haggis to bring home with us, cant beat it with mash and carrots/turnips and gravy yummy, Julie hates it so I get it all to myself, I cant easy eat a full one to myself, :thumbs:

I've had it as a traditional haggis with Neeps and Tatties as above :thumbs:

I have also had a a chicken breast stuffed with haggis :thumbs: :thumbs:

Love haggis - miles better than faggots and other meaty treats

I have it either in a sandwich*with a shedload of butter or with mushy peas, gravy and vinegar with a picnh of pepper on top - mmmm...
 
I cant recall having it, but been to scotland many times, i would love to try it, when i lived in Kenya there was a similar local type of food which i didnt mind.

Often the best way to try something new. Only problem then is that expectations start high! ;)
 
Yeah like me haggis. Also love black and white pudding, but white is quite hard to get.
 
I currently hold the record at work for eating a whole haggis in the shortest amount of time, mainly because no one has been stupid enough to try and emulate the feat. However, just now, I had haggis broth for lunch. Lovely stuff.
 
I've had haggis a couple of times and quite liked it.

Its not something I think I could eat on a regular bases however.

Just got back from town and am not impressed. As I brought up this subject, I thought I'd pop into waitrose as they do the McSween haggiseses (What is the plural for Haggis? :thinking:) Problem is they only had humongous ones and I haven't got a pan big enough. :( Ah well, have to head for the butchers tomorrow.
