Hi there folks, on this wonderful sunny spring afternoon ,even better i'm on hols for 81/2 days .To the point ,i need better software for my editing ,i've grown out of Picasa .So,i'm in the hunt for summit a bit more powerful ,but,i'm on a "VERY" tight budget; (just bought the siggy 24-70 f2.8 AND filters man those filters aint cheap); Also i'm crap on computers to be honest so the likes of Photoshop Cs3 is waaaay above me!!! ,even photoshop elements!!! ; (see where am comin from folks ).What i would like is something a couple of levels up from Picasa and free would be a bonus . Thanks for taking the time to read this ,hope it makes sense. :):)

You could try GIMP (or WinGIMP if you are on windows). I don't use it, but I'm sure I've seen a few people on here using it, best thing is that it is free (just give it a quick google).

thanks for the info ,and the quick response

Don,t be put off by elements, yes it can be a bit daunting at first but with the right tutorial it can work for you, trust me if i can use it anyone can.

PS you have PM

+1, watch a tutorial on PS elements... After that all will fall into place!

Lightroom, although it is not cheap and could be complicated, but it has all the cataloguing etc of Picasa. You can try the 30 day free trial and see how you get on with it though...

Think a lot depends on what you want to do with the editing software.

I use Rawshooter to process my shots (I only shoot RAW) and generally that is it. No photoshop etc required. To resize for the forum and simple sharpening etc. I use an old version of acdsee ( though I could have used Irfanview which is free).

Rawshooter is discontinued now. If I should upgrade the camera sometime then Lightroom will be on my shopping list too.

Thanks everyone for your comments ,i mainly want to upgrade to try and speed up the sorting out process really ,and i also want to try and work with RAW files ,or try to!! :)

Was there any software bundled with your camera? That may be a good place to start...

Try Lightroom but if your on a Mac Aperture surpasses it by quite a margin now. Alternatively Elements isnt really that bad.

You going to Ardersier tomorrow? If you are I've a real copy of Paintshop pro 9 you can try, don't use it now anyway :)

Hey there dod ,yeh i'm planning Ardi tomorrow .Thanks very much kind sir, i'd like to give it a whirl .Nice clear skies tonight ,so cross everything we have another day like today, and i'll get a chance to christen my new lens..:)
