Noticed a fair few stands of fiber and dust inside my 50mm f/1.8 whilst cleaning my kit the other day, and I absolutely didn't mind it at all. I wasn't bothered!

I think the reason why was due to the focal length? I don't think ill notice any optical imperfections at that kind of length.. will I?

Nooooo! It's not that bad.. it's small pieces of thread and such.. a bit like link. IT DEFINITELY DOESN'T HAVE FUNGUS...

Hi Farrance,

I bought a Nikkor 50mm f1.4 and noticed what looked like a tiny piece of metal swarf inside. TBH I dont know if it will make any difference whatsoever to IQ but I still got it changed for a new one. Sorry, that probably doesn't help does it?!

Cheers

Take some pics with large f# focusing at different ranges on a white background... If anything shows up you have a problem - if not... don't worry about it.

I get them on the sensor dust - 105mm macro plus tubes, focussed close as poss.... Its on my sensor... the dust bits in the lens don't seem to do anything...

Enjoy the lens!

are these thin white 'cobweb' like threads? That would be fungus - they don't look like mould on apples

Don't worry. The lens will probably fall apart before the fungus gets that bad. :naughty:

So you've got fungus and it will spread to your other kit.

Note the absence of smilies... I am serious.

Utter nonsense. Lenses will only get fungus if they are stored in a damp and humid atmosphere. Fungus doesn't just crawl out of one lens and into another  Rather, fungal spores are everywhere and will only come to life in their preferred conditions, and they will only continue to grow when they remain in those conditions.
