For a while now I've had a website at http://kelticrose.itsmyland.com which was on a free host addyour.net just at the start of December the site went down, so i looked on their forum on www.addyour.net and sure enough it said there were having a few problems with some sites.

Then around Christmas the forum for help went down, and its still down, as is mine.

The site had coppermine installed on it, and it was a quick way for me to show my pics. I'm think they are probably all lost. I've obviously got all my pics but they are spread out all over hard drives whereas on my site I had what I felt were the best ones.

Moral of story - Backup even when its a free site

I've registered myself a new site (with loads of help from Marcel :) ) www.kelticrose.co.uk but had hoped to bring my coppermine pics across. Think now its start from scratch - might try gallery software this time.

Oh well thats my ramble :'(
 
Damn - seems a bit of a pain in the arse! Means you get to look at all your pics again though I guess :D I see you have gone for the Marcel stylings of Wordpress :) looks good!

As a general point if anyone is going to register a domain name don't pay daft prices (I am sure you didnt) http://www.ukreg.com/ is an excellent site for registering domain names and is the cheapest I have found (with a VERY good support system)

If Marcel told him how to reg and everything id be surprised if they didnt pay him to use them ;)

I'd say backup especially when its a free site.

If you're getting something for free then you can't really complain when it disappears.
 
Well, "complain" maybe wasn't the right word, but you know what I mean. ;)
 
You have every right to be hacked off KIM ... and I should think everyone else in your position would be ... :eek:

But at least you have served a reminder on peeps who may be in a similar position and that can't be bad ... :thumbs:

Jammy devil! Like you say though - a second chance at it, get the backup done and then run like the wind!! ;) :thumbs:
