Gym depression...

Remember, I was posting in reference to exercising for weight-loss; something you're not going to achieve if you're piling on the muscle mass in its place.
That all depends entirely how much fat a person has to lose as well as their ability to pack on muscle. Some people only have the ability to pack on very lean muscle mass unless they take steroids, so they are unlikely to put on more weight than they can lose in fat.

In some ways, I disagree with this kind of sentiment. I see almost everyone with a water bottle at the gym. You're not going to die from dehydration whilst you're in there.

When I run hard, I breathe through my mouth. This has the effect of drying it out. It doesn't mean I'm dehydrated.

I think you'll find it does, regardless of whether you've been breathing through your mouth.

I drink anything from 1 to 1.5 litres of water, throughout my weight lifting workouts.

Oh my god! It's getting to the point where you can't post a broad response here for fear of people picking it apart with all sorts of unique exceptions and unusual circumstances. Gone are the days when a simple response was enough and was taken as such. Now a paragraph reply has to come with 3 more paragraphs of conditions and qualifications for when the previous statement is and isn't applicable.

We get it. You go to the gym a lot. You eat lots of protein. You're probably a very big man. Well done.

I'm out.

I suspect my definition of dehydration is different from yours. I will drink fluids before or after my workout but not during.

I think the 5x5 stronglift program would be good for you. You start with the bar and work your way up, its good because it builds your form before you really get into heavy weights.

I would avoid smith machines for squats and deadlifts, hell pretty much everything they don't offer a natural free range of motion.

Half your problem is probably your Gym buddy, trying to keep up and comparing yourself to him is going to put you in the wrong mind set. Your on your path not his focus on that.

Somebody's tired.
