Hi All,

I want to do a military style shoot, I am looking to buy some replica hand guns or something. Is there anywhere that I can buy these sort of props from? I dont seem to be able to unless I am a historical re-enactor or a film company...

Thanks

Theres a lot of cheaper "heavyweight airsoft" options out there that are easy to obtain and look quite realistic. I guess it depends on your budget and how real you want these to look. Just emember to be very cautious when using these props where the public could see them. If its outdoors then deff let the local police know what you are up to and get as much permission as possible or you might find yourself in a lot of trouble or even shot! (Gun in image here was a heavyweight DE that cost around £90)

To buy a airsoft replica you need a UKARA licence.

To get one you need to visit an airsoft site 3 times in no less than 3 months then you can get Ukara licence to buy. http://www.ukara.org.uk/.

My freinds and i use the airsoft ones for filming as they are very realistic and fairly cheap.

The other way is to buy Deactivated weapons which you do not need any licence for but can be expensive, and can be got from sites such as

http://www.deactivated-guns.co.uk/deactivated-guns/cat_2.html

You could always go down to your local airsoft site and ask them to pose for you as they do wear some nice kit already have the guns and most love to have there photo's taken..:)

Also do a search for local gun clubs/ranges. The majority are on private land, so the general public taking an interest is less of an issue. Have a chat with the club/range chairman or safety officer - they should be able to offer some advice.

Very good advice for your first post ;-)

as said you shouldnt be able to get ahold of a RIF without a defence, these being for re inactment, airsoft or film props.
apart from that it would have to be a two tone with would be a nasty colour aswell as black.

on a side note you do NOT have to be ukara regestered to own a RIF for airsofting this is not legislation, just what the shop owners and others have started to make it easier for them to sell to the right people.
Ive been an airsofter for 10 years and have never had it nor will never get it.you just have to be able to prove that you are a skirmisher.

I used to do re-enactment event photography a couple of years back. Perhaps I should give that a proper look. Thanks for all you're advise. It just seems so silly that someone can pick up a de-ac with no problem yet a replica is contraband!

How kindly do local police take to this kind of photoshoot? Any experiences?

Thanks

I used props like this for a short movie a few years ago. The police thanked me for telling them where I would be shooting, and a officer popped by to have a friendly chat and to check everything was ok. 100% let them know though (If you are in a public area that the public can see). Obv you dont need to bother with this if you are in a studio and the owner knows about it.

this website www.thegunner.net supplies WW2 deactivated weapons and accessories, I do know the owner, he is a genuine guy with loads of contacts in this field, if you do not wish to buy, he may know a local collector to you who he could put you in touch with to borrow props.
Simon.

easier and cheaper is airsofting equipment
I'd get in touch with your local airsoft groups
just as an example I have a few rifles, pistol and SMG lookalikes
a mate of mine has an entire armoury! loads of the things!
there are lots of groups and airsoft squads or troupes that will be in your neck of the woods, get on some forums and ask around, facebook is good for this too

also my motto is "99% of airsoft is posing"
some airsofters would love some posing photos to put on their websites etc.

as far as I know this is only for the sale or exchange of RIF's
I'm not registered at the mo so the ones I have upstairs are legal to own, but guidelines state that I should only sell them , should I wish, to skirmishers, registered or otherwise

Yeah if you already owned then its fine i suspect.
What i was meaning is that ukara registration is not the only way you can get them even if a skirmisher, though many think and preach this.
I would not consider doing an outside shoot where the public may see u.its an offence to display a rif in public and could result in severe punishment.
