Yes
Hi, I've got a few really gorgeous (to my eyes!) looking guitars, but I don't seem to be able to get good images of them, has anyone got any ideas/suggestions for lighting, angles etc that could help?
Cheers

Hi, why not try looking in guitar magazines such as Guitarist for some ideas/inspiration?

I think because of the high gloss nature of guitars you would need an off camera flash or just a long exposure. Depending on the colour of the guitars a black back drop sets them of nicely, see PRS's website.

Use the light to define the shape of the guitar - Bondy's right - a black (or dark) background can work wonders, and be inventive!

I know a company that imports guitars. Their web site - http://www.lindoltd.com/ - has some photos of various models. The guy in the demo videos takes the pictures with a Canon (not sure which one but it's a consumer model).

I have no connection with the company save that of knowing the people that work there.

plain background..single guitars from different angles..if a few guitars, create lines and angles for compositions. An extreme example here

Also perhaps an image composed of say 4-6 sub images of close ups of different parts of the guitar from different angles.

I love the blue photo. Very inventive. Its nice to mix up photography now and again. Makes people stop and look rather than it being the same old sort of photo. :D x

Bingo! If you're short on inspiration, magazines are always an excellent first port of call, as well as guitar manufacturer websites. Guitar and string manufacturers tend to have sexy photography of the gear. Remember that you don't necessarily have to photograph the entire instrument; often a more abstract approach focusing on small sections of the guitar can be even more interesting and alluring, because of the combination of curves and details. Use soft lighting but ensure you have nice highlights on the paintwork and metal.

Mmmm I do love a bit of guitar porn.

Having the same dilemma right now with the total transformation of a cheap ass bass almost complete, was thinking of asking the same question!

Personally I think they always look best in use, but they don't look good if you just dump them on a model who hasn't got a clue!
