I'm not normally one to get excited but I am really chuffed. I applied to the RPS for an Associateship in Nature and, following the assessment today I'm really chuffed to report that I passed!

I had to submit a panel of 15 images, which I did as mounted prints. These were to be displayed in two rows - birds on the top and mammals on the bottom, as shown in the hanging plan.

The selected images were

1. Saddle-billed stork, Okavango Delta, Botswana

Congratulations!
And a very deserving panel too

Congratulations and well deserved, some cracking shots in there.

Congratulations on the award - well earned with that set of cracking images.

That is a seriously good set of images and I'm not surprised you passed. Congratulations on the Associateship and the pictures.

Congrats, that is a deserved collection of shots.

Absolutely stunning collection Paul
And of course Congratulations are in order

Well done Paul, did you do the L or go straight for the A ? Love that roller shot best out of these but all great.

Excellent news Paul... ... well done and with a truly superb panel of images too...

Congratulations Mr Paul GrumpyBadger ARPS ... ;)

:p

Congratulations. That's a lovely set of photos. Definitely something to aspire to.

Excellent set of images - talk about strength in depth

Congratulations on your associateship, you must be so chuffed :clap::clap:

Knew you when you had nowt ;)

Congrats Paul, well done and well deserved.

Thanks all. I am really chuffed. It's been a lot of work selecting, processing, printing and mounting the images but an interesting project. I've never had the discipline of pulling together a big panel before and thoroughly enjoyed it (whether I would have done if I hadn't been successful would be a different matter!)

Alby - I decided to go straight for the 'A' as I already have specialism I enjoy in nature photography and the 'L' is more broad.

That's what I thought I might try one day as I don't think I have the variation and artiness for the L

For the newer members amongst us , exactly what does this mean?

The Royal Photographic Society run a series of distinctions awarded to recognise a certain level of photographic output.

The first is the Licentiateship which is "is normally the entry level Distinction and is awarded for a good level of basic skill and competence. "

Then is the Associateship which is "is awarded for a high standard of technical competence and individual creative ability. "

And the top award is the Fellowship which is "awarded for exceptional standards of excellence and distinguished ability. "

The Licentiateship is judged on a panel of 10 images (normally of mixed subject matter), the Associateship on a panel of 15 images (assessed to a higher standard) and the Fellowship on 20 images (to a higher standard still). Both the Fellowship and Associateship are specialised with categories such as
  • Applied and Professional inc Documentary and Visual Journalism
  • Audio Visual Sequences and Photo Harmony
  • Contemporary
  • Film and Video
  • Nature
  • Printing
  • Research, Education and Application of Photography
  • Science
  • Travel
  • Visual Art

Hope that helps

Paul
