Grumpidad's 52 of 2011 - Week 23 of 52 - Broken - Added

Hi Pete,

Fascinating insight into life onboard in your cluttered shot.
Looks like there's precious little room and I just hope that the panel on the left doesn't control anything critical because it seems like it would be all too easy to accidentally knock into it

The penguin is the standout shot so far for me though - really like that one a lot.

I'm enjoying seeing this thread develop and the little glimpses into your working life that it's giving us

The "Delicate" fuze of a 4.5" shell. ;)

I know its a reach but there is not a lot delicate on a Pusser Grey Liner. :D

I ain't going to say a word about that photograph, just in case you point it at me....:eek:

Like it, delicate touch is a must.

Cheers.

Ladies and Gents,

I give you a truly naval version of "Chaos" - 'Hands to Bathe' in the middle of the ocean. :D

Miles away from land, crystal clear water, too deep to mention its the only way to swim in the sea. ;)

wow, thats a cracking image., the water looks really crystal clear
nice work :)

Hiya Pete,

Wow you have posted week 8 before I even got to see your week 7 so well done.

Week 7: Wow now that is something that I am sure is very powerful, yet has to be handled with kid gloves. Lovely DOF, not sure if you intended the image to look quite grainy or was that the idea?

Week 8: That defintely looks like chaos and something I wouldn't be brave enough to do (I don't like very deep water where I can't see the bottom) so that would definitely through me into a state of chaos. Looks like you are all having fun and enjoying the crystal blue water (even though it looks freezing cold).

Well done for posting two great shots for the last couple of weeks.

Cheers

Dawn :)

Thanks for the comments.

Shark watch was on the ship with a rifle, just in case and there was also a boat just out of shot with a gun in too.

Air temp was 34Deg, sea slightly lower, nothing like the UK though.

I like that. My first impression on first viewing was that it was a chaotic first attempt at synchronized swimming. :) Great colour on the water there.

Penguin wins it for me of the group so far, great pic, and he sure is a very stylish penguin ;0)

Thanks again for the comments, unfortunately I don't think it was over-exposed.
Its just the sun beating down with no cloud cover and with the white bodies of the swimmers, minimal chance to sunbathe up til then, it just looks over exposed.

Tina would you prefer inadequate swimwear ? ;)

Mate I love your 52 more than most of them as you are working with such a narrowing situation being on ship yet you successfully deliver an on themed shot each week! I also love the snapshot at Navy life and think at the end you will have a great credible piece of work capturing themes and also life on ship. It's maybe something you could do more with!?!? A booklet or something! I fully intend on getting my 52 for this year made into a photo book as a keep sake!

Great work so far!

Just catching up again. It must've been difficult to find clutter as the forces don't really stand for much of that.

Your delicate shot is cool, not too many of those will be turning up

And chaos fits the bill superbly, such a beautifuly coloured sea.

You are doing so well, considering you are so limited in your location

I just want to add that I too am enjoying looking at your pictures. It is great to see a snapshot of Navy life. Love the theme within a theme idea.

Peter, I like it very much.

Great composition, colours and timing.

Great reflection from the sun and I really like that you caught the wave bottom centre.

Cheers.

The spectrum of colours surrounding the sun is amazing, well spotted and captured.

Hiya Pete,

Wow! I absolutely love this photo .... lucky you to see such a stunning sunset.

The composition is great and the wave in the centre just adds to it. Also like the bit of sun flare and the colours are awesome.

Well done

Cheers

Ft Lauderdale?

Its nice to see your sets, Pete.
I liked the passageway shot, I was on 42's and cant imagine running down that in a wooley bear suit at the 15 stone I am now!

As for crit on the shot, its got lovely colours, but you have lost some of the flag detail because you have shot with the wind in your face. If you had gone side on to the three flagpoles you might have got all three flapping in their full glory ( I have to say glory as the wife is a Yank!)

Gav,

I'd have loved to have been the other side but I would have been in 6 foot of water as these were right by the edge of the promonade in Miami, (nearly right with the location).

Hiya Pete,

Well done on another great photo for the week's theme.

Not much you can do about the flags and the direction they fly .... if you could have taken the photo from a different angle, no doubt the wind would have played tricks on you and changed too

I think you have done a brill job and set against the blue sky, with the fluffy white clouds just compliments the photo great.

I always look forward to seeing what photos you come up with, and think you should consider having your photo52 printed into a book format at the end of the project as it would make a great memory of your year.

Cheers

I can only endorse this

That is a feeble excuse about the water...you keep telling us you are on a ship...

Good catch, Pete.

You can really feel the wind and you've really captured the nice colours in the sky.

Somehow, I don't think 3 Union Flags would prove to be such a good photograph, if you know what I mean.

Cheers.

Thanks for all the comments guys and girls, unfortunately I am now back in the UK.
But I managed to get this one for this weeks challenge before i came home, The New York Public Library, where else would you find knowledge but in a library.

Again I was traffic dodging on Fifth Avenue which is why it is slightly wonky.

Pete

Hiya Pete,

Welcome home, after what seems to be quite an adventure, even though work related.

As you have already stated it is a bit wonky, but considering your having to dodge 5th Ave hustle and bustle I think you have done well.

Actually coming to think of it, this would have also fit your trio theme with the 3 arches. But agree where else would one find knowledge.

Well done

Cheers

Dawn :)
