a rant

i recently purchased a nikon d300s and searched google for the best price which turned out to be simply electronics and also said 1-2 working day delivery and thought brilliant. When it did not arrive i rang them and after 15 minutes of being on hold they explained to me it was 3-5 working days delivery. i went mad and told them what i had read and they said they dont do that blah blah..... so i cancelled! After looking again i found the camera body for £10 extra and was the cheapest again so thought, yeah! That was friday. I emailed them today to enquire about when to expect delivery and they said TA DAH..... tuesday 19th!! OMG why! the second company is pro visual...

Its ridiculous

or of course try Kerso or Digital Depot (links in slaes area)

It is worth being aware that cheapest, might mean you will get a grey import and as such not have a UK Warranty. Worth checking before you buy or you might find getting it repaired under warranty is a nightmare or expensive.

My GF tried the local camera shop for her 550d she wanted somewhere to be able to go back to if there was a problem. "Be here in 2 days" they told her, took 2 weeks, she'll never buy anything else there.

I recently bought a new camera body and spent ages checking prices beforehand (I'm not easily seperated from me brass !) Fortunately I did a search on here of the recommended retailers and was guided by what I found (shopping, suppliers and bargains is the sub-forum I think)
The same old names came out time and again as being "safe" and reliable. Some others came up with some pretty damning criticism and were duly avoided. Not much help to you now Mark but hopefully other folk may avoid disappointment in future.
It's difficult to make an informed decision without getting other peoples feedback as some of the "dodgy" sites have very impressive websites, often with huge positive feedback numbers.

I hope your Nikon turns up on time and makes up for your wait.

As far as I know camerapricebuster is one guy, he does pretty well I think though the prices are only as good as those on the shops his site connects to.

in my experiance you can always beat the cheapest price listed on camerapricebuster just by spending a hour or two searching the net. They get close but never the cheapest.

Of course it does depend on just how much those extra hour or two are worth to you, if you then only save a few pence or at most a few pounds is it the best use of your time?

I have no sympathy for you. You selected the supplier based solely on price without considering the potential downsides to this.

Yup and the people who do so invariably turn up here or on other fora moaning about how they've been ripped off, or the goods took an age to arrive......

Buying with Simply Electronics, you'd be lucky if the item turned up at all, yet alone late.
