I have noticed over the last few months an increase in new members posting in F&C

Some posters are from the the digital membership, as well as new posters are we becoming more popular in house or because the film genre in just growing?

I hope it is because we are growing.

I'm not sure we should be discussing growing members........

But you are right Richard there does seem to have been a little surge of new (or returning) filmies over the last few months.
I like to think that it is because we are the friendliest, most laid back, most helpful and quite probably the handsomest section on TP. Oh and we are really cool and not the least bit geeky.

Andy

^^What Andy said tbh.

I think we have grown in the last few months, but not by a great deal. What I like about this section is it the 'old folks home@ (can we change the sub-forum description to this?) and everyone who posts here isn't egotistical and are more than happy to spread there knowledge about the place. We all also comment on photos posted here too. Just look at how well received the film shots thread is.

i think because this section is a little self contained it manages a better community feel to the rest of the forum, we've got gear discussions, communal GAS and a fairly informal photo thread in one place coupled with a relatively small membership who are less prone to starting arguments. Maybe we need to go out and spread calm through the rest of the forum.

Since I joined two years ago this is the only section I come to every day. Great help ms advice and a nice little community. Not having 'toys out of pram' episodes is a massive plus too :)

I would have found home developing a lot harder of it were not for this section of the forum!

If I could stay here and not read any nonceyness outside F&C, that would be excellent.
Sometimes having a small membership means things can be a shade slow in F&C, I end up flicking round the other boards which invariably means I'm gonna come across nonceyness.
The busier it gets here the better AFAIC..:)

i think the simplicity of a film camera has a lot to do with it. Look at the major brand posts on the equipment threads. No one posting images just picking over the minutiae of perceived issues with their gear. Moaning about an odd pixel looking a bit wonky has nothing to compare with what a negative looks like after youve dropped it on the bathroom floor a couple of times and the dog has licked it. We just accept that as part of the art.

A film camera is a hole at one end and a bit of film at the other. If the image comes out crap its your fault not the cameras :) So there's less to get stressed about and to rush onto forums ready to overanalyse some little setting somewhere.

Of course, beautiful people make beautiful images so i reckon we're the handsomest bunch too :)

Hmmm, none of those three apply to me!
But I have just had a beautiful camera drop into my hand.

Well, my member is certainly gr... nevermind.

A surge in posting and/or shooting can only be a good thing. Andy nailed it for me though... and there's nothing wrong with being a geek!

I'm new here by invitation of Andy, I've posted a few threads about some tests I've made with black and white film in the Film Photo section. I'm a "return to film" member and very happy at the moment, and I'm not the only one, many people are returning to film because they are tired of digital photography, they are looking for something different, and/or the success (more like a fashion, I hate it) of things like lomography.

Hopefully we won't become too successful though, otherwise the noncyness may invade.

I think there was a bit of a spate of retro film adoption a few years back, which quickly died a death amongst the people who were just doing it to be cool, and now we get the slow trickle of people, with occasional spurts in membership.

The fact that it's a little forum within the forum is nice though, and other than the landscapes forum there's very few other places I look on here anymore, it's just way more civilised in the fusty corner

Hi, I guess I'm one of the guys you could be talking about and hey it's good to be around.

I've been a pro tog since the early seventies and use film (mainly 5 x 4) most working days in the studio. We do all our own in house processing, B&W, C41, E6, and I still get a huge buzz when something comes out right. Believe me it does occasionally happen !!!:)

I'll probably not get the chance to submit many shots to the forum as most of my stuff is shot for clients etc. But If I can help you guys out from time to time with a bit of constructive advise (probably nonsense) then I'll do my best to do so.

Looking forward to chatting some more in the future.

George.

It's the best sub-section. I shoot digital on a regular basis, but I find forum discussion of digital photography so dull.

And who wants to talk about VAT? Or green tinged LCD screens? Or my personal favourite, UV filters :bang:

A big thanks to all the regulars

I've never encountered a forum so obsessed with other people's tax.

We should have a photographic challenge, and the person who comes last has to post a thread titled "avoiding import duty" in Talk Equipment. I guarantee you my photography talent will double in response :D

Just keep it running as it is chaps, this is my one haven of (semi-)sanity in the whole morass of Classifieds Transgressors, Spammers, Over-Sensitive Over-Precious Arty-Farty *******s and general whingers...

If Only I had the time to actually take the odd photograph once in a while, it'd be great to participate here...

The old X10 thread was pretty good, too! That's what brought me to TP after dipping a toe into the DPreview forum sludge and getting it thrown in my face. Then I found F&C, next thing I know I've got 4 film cameras and half a dozen extra lenses.

Do hope your life calms enough to find your photo mojo again, Mark.

And if you take a really crap foto you can blame it on ancient equipment and poor advice from old people :D

We prefer the term 'mature and sagacious'

Well we are certainly not mendacious.

My dictionary has been overworked this morning. On the plus side, it has meant that the emails I have been sending have been full of nonsensical words.

This is such a lovely section of the forum. Everyone is so friendly and helpful, compared to other (digital) photography forums, where people like to wave their members (while we're on the subject) about rather a lot.
