Well, going to have go.

I usually shave every 2-3 days and I've never had a beard as such. Tell a lie, I did have a beard a few years ago after a dose of pneumonia, shaving was the last thing on my mind then but as soon as I felt like it, I shaved it off. I do remember an old Barber friend of mine saying on a few occasions that a Goatee would suit me. I never tried though but I'm not caring now at my age, so I'm going to let it grow. I'm not intending a full beard or a long one, just like a 'number 2' type thing.

Do I just let it grow? What 'care' will it need, apart from washing it of course?

Can you really hide food in it?

This might all come crashing down next week when I decide I don't like it.

I'm on day 3 now, I'll keep you posted.

I've had a beard longer than I've been an adult. They require nothing more than washing, just like you do your head hair, and trimming occasionally unless you like the garden gnome look (and many do). These days I keep just a goatee - the hairless parts need shaving minimum once per day, and more if I need to be smooth - and I trim it roughly every 2-3 weeks to stop it getting bushy.

The best advice re trimming is to trim the beard you have rather than the one you want. I had a goatee for about ten years, and have had a full beard for most of the last 6 years. A bit of good quality beard oil will keep it supple, but go easy on it - it goes a long way.

I had a beard from when I left the Royal Navy in '75 until 2000 when I shaved it off as I was living in Africa and it was too hot for a beard.

I've never had more than a few days growth since as I can't get past the 'itchy' stage.

I've never liked partial beards like goaties, moustaches etc. as I think they look silly and you still have to half shave - what's the point?

Still, whatever floats your boat. Good luck with the scratching . . . ;)

The itchy stage happens because we tend to wet shave and leave our facial hair like little spiky buggers. If you use hair clippers for the last shave before growing it pretty much negates the issue.

I grew a beard when I was 19 and still have it now at soon to be 68 , Yes I do a DIY trim as and when I look a bit unkept , None of my 3 children have seen me without a beard . It was natural blond and is now white , Grr old age is not fun.

I’d love to grow a full beard but the side bits above my jawline are really thin and wispy, so I’m more or less stuck with having a goatee or nothing. Sometimes we don’t get a choice ;)Anyway the wife likes it and lots of people have told me it suits me.

I don’t do beard oil or fancy stuff like that, it just gets washed along with the rest of my face. I wet shave every 2-3 days and run a beard trimmer over it every couple of weeks to keep it tidy.

Full beard here. CBA with the faff of facial topiary. DID have a sort of goaty half way through lockdown but that was just a longer chinny bit with a shorter (#1 buzzcut) rest of head. Since then, it all came down to a #1 about 18 months ago and just gets a scissor wave when Mrs Nod buzz cuts the top of the bonce (well, the side bits that still have hair!) and eyebrows/ears!

Never had a beard or goatee [oft called a 'Smig' [sounds like 'shmig' ] in Ireland - literally means chin, though it's been expanded to mean 'chin beard'] - my face is too sensitive for that craic. Seems like less hassle to just wet shave daily. I have pondered how I'd look with at least a 'goatee' but honestly, if I don't shave for 2 days I feel really uncomfortable [also the better half prefers it smooth!]

Mrs Nod has control over all my head hair! Used to shave the beard off every few years just to wind her up!!!

I've had a goatee or a full beard for years of varying lengths.
Only ever shave it off if I naked a mess of trimming it, then I grow it straight back again.....
I use beard shampoo and oil...

Not all of us do!

I had a full beard since 19, until I accidentally took half my one side off trimming it when I was about mid-40's, so shaved all off (facial hair that is). I grew the moustache back quite soon, but for a couple of years stayed like that but didn't like it and shaving was a pita, so grew the full beard back but this time it came out grey/white instead of ginger - blessing in disguise maybe. A few years ago wifey said it made me look old having white hair and full white beard - I'd acquired a work nickname of Captain Birdseye! So I now have a goatee which varies in length depending on how I feel about it, sometimes it's definitely too long but I can't stand a little bit of stubble on my chin, so it is more often longer rather than smart and short. Since I've been allowed to grow my hair long again anyway (shoulder length), I reckon it suits my personal statement - never too old to rock!

I could show you.....with Dale's permission :ROFLMAO:

I'll wait for a nose down selfie from the man himself when his facial fungus has grown in a bit!

I'd say my Goatee is kinda there now, it's about a grade 2 or 3 cut.

That'll do me.

Selfie time then!

Breaking, offical news.

Tomorrow, the beard is coming off.

I'm past the itch but now I can see it, out of the corner of my eye. :runaway:

I also can't stop rubbing it. :$ Why is that?

I'm going to resort to baby bum smooth.
