'Grey' stock?

Let's be honest HMRC and the equipment manufacturers could stop this whole scenario almost overnight if there was the will to do so.

How? They're not doing anything wrong, it's not a crime to import or export consumer electronics.

The legal requirement is on the person or organisation importing to properly declare the value of the item for tax purposes.

Targeted prevention by HMRC and action against the 'rogue' suppliers by the manufacturers.

They are doing something wrong when they don't declare the item description or value accurately.
Sample worth 25 quid must be something of a signal when you see it time and again, day in and out.

I bought some ink cartridges online that appeared in separate packages from Switzerland over the course of a week.
When asked why the company said it was in case they got lost enroute and not all of them would go missing.
Nothing to do with evading duty then for items costing less than a certain value.
In the end the person I spoke to said why did I care if they were cheap?

How about unknowingly being party to deception, at least the Grey importers are clear about the buyer being the importer

Prevention of what though? Grey imports are not illegal, HMRC has no reason whatsoever to stop you importing consumer electronics.

On the contrary, I would assume HMRC wants you to import more stuff.

Prevention of goods entering the country without appropriate taxes being applied of course.

That's very interesting, I've not seen that before. Do you have any links to info regarding this? I always assumed that, as they always massively under price items on the shipping info that they are avoiding duty.
No sorry , no links just picked this up in conversation with a couple of other photographers some years ago, as I said at the beginning I might be wrong but I have never researched it.
