And the answer is that there are loads of different sellers, all at broadly similar prices. If you google "Colorama" you'll see loads of links.

Thanks Garry. I will need to decide on the shade. I couldn't see any background supports on your site- unless you have emailed me about that and it hasn't come through to me yet!

Background papers come in different widths too, or you can get a longer one and cut it to size with a saw.

The background support is just a cross-bar that sits on top of regular lighting stands. If you're going for less than the full 9ft standard width, make sure the cross-bar is adjustable for length. Telescoping ones are good, not expensive.

Thanks Richard. As I am shooting in a house rather than a lovely big studio I was planning on getting one of the intermediate width rolls. It will be big enough to manage all of the statues etc.

It will be if you're a long way away with a long lens. You asked me how to get the background to photograph as grey, and as well as having a grey background to start with, you also need a fair bit of distance between subject and background (assuming that light pointing towards the subject is also reaching the background).

Unless you're a long way away from the subject, perspective distortion will make the background much smaller...

Thanks Garry. I will have a decent amount of room to work in and should be able to get at least a couple of meters between the subject and the background. I also have a range of lenses from a 17-55 to a 70-200 and a 100mm macro. Hopefully with this tripod mounted and square on (something to be rather diligent about from all the advice so far!). Sounds like the 2.7m paper may be the better option though, only storage may be more difficult with this.
