No
Just to clarify

And it might sound stupid :thinking:

A grey import is exactly the same camera as you would get in UK just have to watch the warranty ECT???

But there no chance of the camera coming as a fake or have different features or quality right???

I am thinking of using digitalrev as I'm happy with their warranty policy so be long as the camera will be the same as it would be from a UK store like Jessop’s??

Sorry for stupid question but got to put my head to rest before I send them a grand+++++

Thanks

Jamie

Buy it:)
Same camera. Charger may have different plug and not a UK plug. So just get a adapter.

You sometimes find Canon cameras made in the USA are slightly different internally but DR don't source their gear there.

Camera's from Digital-Rev will have a UK adaptor supplied with it so no need to buy one
Same as if you buy from Kerso on here. The models are actually US ones but with a full UK warranty, which means they don't have to be sent to the US if there is a warranty claim.
If the warranty is sound then you'll have no troubles. If the warranty is not UK then I would steer well clear. ;)

Would I also be right in saying that a 'Grey' import that does Vid, the length or recording wont be restricted as the UK ones are?

ALL warranty are with the SELLER and not the maker in UK Law

As long as the seller is a UK company. Most of these grey marketeers aren't, so UK law doesn't apply. I've no idea what rights consumers have under Hong Kong law - but I wouldn't mind betting it'd be bloody expensive to try and enforce such rights in Chinese courts. So the only thing keeping them honest is the repeat custom that a good reputation will bring in. Until things start going a bit dodgy - then there seems very little to stop them cutting and running.

So if I buy any thing from a uk company I.e a tv and It's 8 months old I can take it back to the shop.

And not get told and have to call the brand and send it back to them I.e Panasonic and bought from a major shop

I bought a Tokina lens from a well known Hong Kong retailer.

It cost ME £36 to send it back to Hong Kong and get it returned for a repair they say it didn't need, even though it was tested on 3 different camera and wouldn't work. Came back working on all 3.

I was £36 out of pocket on a £270 lens.

PM DigitalRev on this forum and ask for clarification, then if your happy buy it. A grey import will probably have names like Rebel XT etc whereas they will have numbers like 400D in the UK.

Make sure if the body has video recording it records in PAL and not NTSC

Sorry but wrong...they have international warranties and CANON say they will honour lens but not bodies for imports...

Although it has been known for users to have imports covered ... official line is not for bodies...

I got my info from canon direct aftre asking them... Where did you get yours?

I believe Kerso supplies a UK receipt and as such Canon honour warranty ?
I'm sure this has been covered before so a search may throw something up.

Well yes it is always the seller you go to BUT there is a difference after 6mth after this time is has to be proven the fault is gen and not because of the user if that makes sense.

It has nothing to do with Canon it the Seller not the maker in UK Law

Its nothing to do wiht canon if they honour a warranty or not ?? seriously?

I am only telling you what canon UK told me..
warranties for bodies are regional.. it has to be uk warranty..

But it seems some would just prefer to believe what they want to .....

In UK law, a guarantee is considered to be “an agreement to provide some benefit for a set period of time in the event of the goods or services being defective”. For example, a vacuum-cleaner manufacturer will usually offer a guarantee with their products that, for a year or more, they will carry out free repairs for problems caused by a manufacturing defect.
It’s important to remember that manufacturers’ guarantees are in addition to your statutory responsibilities as a supplier under the Sale of Goods Act. A supplier cannot, for instance, refuse to deal with a customer’s complaint about a faulty product simply on the grounds that the product is outside its guarantee period.
In law, suppliers are still liable for any breach of contract – for example, if the goods are not fit for their purpose, or of satisfactory quality – for a period of up to six years (five years from the date the problem arises, in Scotland).
