"Grey gear" vs second hand

I've read few topics here already and so far ive noticed that "grey gear" is OUT for warranty reasons. Only ?
People suggest you to go for second hand gear if the chat comes to "grey gear", why is that so when sec hand gear comes without ANY warranty ?

With "grey gear" i get at least some warranty but with second hand gear i wont get even that.

Comparison: UK seller - "grey" - second hand
price difference would be roughly 100 - 80 - 70
Like if sec hand gear £70, "grey" product was £80 and genuie was £100

I can see bigger differense between geniue UK product vs grey than "grey" vs second hand.

Can i feel more comfortable with the camera with 20K shots made (2y old) vs brand new "grey" product for the same price ?

Just random thoughts ...

Swings & roundabouts really...

"Grey" = New althou its brought from overseas where as "2nd hand" = used & could've been bashed around & you only have someone's word for it (for the likes of ebay) but you could get a bargain all the same though...

Then again it could come down to when you sell it as some wont buy a "grey market" camera - then again would it matter if its 2years old anyhow :shrug: As the warranty would've run out....

In my opinion the term "grey" is taken more negatively than it should. I guess, what's good for Japan/US/Hongkong, could work for us in UK as well, or it can't? Afterall UK gear in Japan would also termed as "grey" but that won't make it any worse than a new japanes one.

Is that the genuie stuff owners just protecting theyr used gear sales market ?
Would be easier to sell theyr second hand gear without any warranty when theres no "grey" stuff on the market with at least 1y sellers warranty ...
Is that the reason why qenuie stuff owners hate "grey" stuff ?
 
Basically the term "grey market" was coined by manufacturers to describe what are properly known as "parallel imports" in an attempt to make it appear as if they are somehow illegal,the inference being that they are similar to black market goods. This is done in an attempt to protect the sales of goods imported through the manufacturer's official channel.
