Can so one explain to me what u use grey car instead of a White one? And do u set ** white balance with this?

A grey card is used to set the correct white balance specific to the ambient light you are working within.

Our as an exposure check it will give you a mid tone grey with an exposure meter reading from it.

all the best:)

Grey Card is effectively a piece of grey card.

You set up the camera, and take a shot of it.

You then choose custom white balance in the camera's menu, and choose the photo you took of the greycard. The camera will then determine the correct white balance from this.

So if useing off camera flash do I set the White balance with or without the flash?

With the flash, if you want the white balance to match the flash. Without, if you want the white balance to match the ambient light.

If in mixed light sources (ambient/flash) i'd shoot RAW and set WB later, especially if its intense shooting, i.e events.

Well if the main light source for the exposure is going to be flash, it'd make sense to set the white balance using flash, thats the whole point of shooting a grey card in the first place, so yeah, with flash:thumbs:
