weekly Gremlin16's TP 52 for 2017 thread. WK 12 POWER

Lovely pic with that smiley face in soft focus top left. Super structure.

I think a falling structure after a little push from your model could have worked as a great action shot. as an alternative.

Bit of a catch-up for me so going for the last three weeks for as many 52'ers as I can. Here's my thoughts on your submissions:

Mineral - Really nice shot and meets the theme no issues for me. Background being OOF works with plenty detail up front. Totally prefer the colour version, despite my love for all things B&W these days.
Whole - Undoubtedly a difficult shot to attempt and despite only part being visible, I'm willing to give you the theme on this one :D The crop suits it and I like the detail down the RHS.
Structure - What's not to like? Great tones, sharp on the subject and enough detail in the BG and your daughter to keep her part of the shot. I'd be framing it, certainly :)

Not really a guitar player but ... I really like this ... focus on the twirled up string ends, standing out well against the BG. (y)

Structure - Nice shot, I like the expression on your daughters face...looks like she was enjoying herself.

Routine - Been a while since I changed strings on a guitar, I like the choice to have the focus on the end of the strings. Maybe feels a little dark but otherwise a good shot.

... don't know who's holding the chord but it looks the business. :)

That would be me sir :)

I didn't mention the shot was done on a tripod and self timer :) as others have said in previous weeks, it's a swine to get back to the same spot/angle. Maybe next time I'll use the remote release :)

@SteveSc i fully agree, i did a slightly lighter one, so may swap it out :)

Thanks guys.

All been said I think. Contrast looks spot on and am sure the bumped exposure would look a bit better all round. Focus is spot on, though I'd personally like more DoF to see the fingers nice and sharp also I can totally understand why (particularly given the theme) you didn't go for this.

The strings lead your eye nicely to the twirly bits. The guitar body has gotten a bit lost in the darkness tho.

I like it too, could do with a little brightening but works well for the theme

Looks like a difficult shot to do, spot on with the angle, framing and choice of focus.

Very attractive, but maybe the light is a tad too harsh, and I wonder if you could have chosen a better crop.

Much better!

Nipped up to Scotland for the day, as you do. Driving back down the A75 and the wife alerts me to a buzzard sat in a field. So i dived out, grabbed the camera, and managed to get this one. Fortunately, had the 70-200 on so I managed to get a bit of light onto the sensor, but it was pretty Dark.

Second shot, not sure whether i prefer it to the first. He needs a bath though, thats for certain.

Composition wise I guess it should be #2, but great capture on the buzzard especially in that light.

The first one. Nothing wrong with the second, but you've got rich greens and the BIF is really sharp.
Only crit would be the line along the wall. Car window perhaps?

Thanks @LC2 , the line is a wire fence, possibly electric. I think I shot this at 2.8 from memory so it's prob outside the focus plane?

It has to be the buzzard, great shot, and I like the composition and colours.
