Hi!

Well, I'm Jo, 28, and I am completely new here, from Sussex.

I have 'played' with my current camera for some time now, and experimented with the likes of photoshop and paintshop pro, but now I am looking for something more, and I have enrolled on a course, that starts in two weeks.

I am looking to purchase my first D-SLR, but after a few weeks of looking, I'm stuck!

So, I'm looking along the lines of a Sony a200, or maybe a Nikon D60, or a Canon model (EOS-400D??) - but I don't know.
Will I outgrow them too quickly? Anyone got any advice about these three, or can you recommend any others for me, as a best place to start, that I will be able to enjoy for the forseeable future, and create a great portfolio for my college course?

Any advice and help is very much appreciated.

Kind regards

xx JO xx

Hi Jo and welcome, for what my comments are worth, what you buy is a very personal thing it depends on budget, but very much on the feel of the camera too, I personally picked between the Canon 450 and 40D, when i had a play with them both in the shop i went for the 40D because it fit in my huge hands better, i also think it makes sense to go to the max you can afford, otherwise you may want to upgrade quicker when you 'out-grow' the camera, thus spending double the wedge. Best wishes to you and hope you get your ideal camera. Paul

Hi Jo
I'm from East Sussex too!
I have the Sony Alpha 200 and am very pleased with it.
Depending where you are in the county you are more than welcome to borrow mine and have a test of it if you like
Rob

Welcome to the site by the way

Many thanks Paul and Rob.

Funnily enough Rob, I'm in Bexhill too lol!! (Little Common)

I intend to go and have a feel of a few later today or tomorrow, so fingers crossed!!

Hi Blitzen

Welcome to TP

I am not that far from you either, just a bit inland. I have a Canon 350D and 400D and find both of these excellent cameras. I am only just starting to find the limitations but it has taken a while and they are fine for very nearly everything I do - take a look at my website to see what I mean.

Hello

Welcome Jo... :)

I have the D60... only got it at the start of August so I`m still getting to grips with it and a newbie to DSLR photography but I can`t fault it atall. Really pleased with it.

I`m still "playing" with it too, lol, lot`s to learn. Thinking about a course myself but not done anything about it yet...

Good luck with picking your camera and I hope the course goes well.

:)
