hi everyone

does anyone know a supplier of cards like these:
(sorry this isn't an advert for this website, just one of the only examples I can find!)

http://www.handyhippo.co.uk/p2973-A...-Cards-and-Envelopes-5-Pack-Hammer-White.html

I'd be looking to buy nearer 100, rather than packs of 5... and so bringing down the price per unit. I'm looking at making some Christmas cards (I know!) to sell, but they're quite expensive to have fully printed... so I thought about getting 6x4 prints done which I can then insert in these 'aperture cards'

thank you!

Try ebay, if you find a shop that sell them on there, try messaging them about quantities.

Or a quick google brought up THIS site (Cards you're after are on that page, and 100 work out at about £20). Don't forget your envelopes though! I'd also recommend getting Hammer White. When I make my cards I always try to use Hammered white as it looks very nice :)

Cello bags are also a nice extra touch, if you're going to be selling them to your client in multiple numbers. Keeps them nice and clean, ready to use when they want.

thank you Jo, that's fantastic... I was struggling to know which keywords to search for, or what the cards are 'properly' called! :)

No problem :) If there is anything else you need to know just ask!

I will say though, if you search around a bit more you will likely find them cheaper ;)

now I know what to search for, I'll give it a go!

Just came across this thread as I have am doing a similar thing.

Jo, that link is just the thing I have been searching the net for for ages. Thanks so much for posting it.

One question, is there much difference between the standard and superior cards? With selling photo cards the profit margins are slim so if it's not a big difference I will get some of the standard ones and try them out.

Andy - with that website, they will send out samples, you just have to provide the postage... i'm going to get this sorted when I'm back home :)

I did a quick price up on quantities of 100 for:
£24.20 - A5 cards with 3.5" x 5.5" (closest to 6x4" print aperture.. Hammer White.. Large Rectangle Card 124x89mm Aperture x25 : Ref: B23)
£5.10 - plain white envelopes (basic)
£3.36 - clear plastic bags/wrappers

= 32.6p/card
= 42.6p/card (going on 10p per 6x4" print)

So I'm thinking of selling at:
1 card = £1.50 (profit £1.07)
4 cards = £5.00 (profit £3.29)

Banners, I have used the 6x4 with 60mm aperture cards. Got them from Hobbycraft but the quality isn't great and they only do packs of 5.
I have sold a few cards for £2 but with only being able to get 5 packs the profits were still less than the £1.07 you are estimating. With 100 cards I can get the price per card down to more like what people will pay and also increase profit at the same time. Win Win!

Just out of interest how are you printing your cards? Yourself or sending them away?

sounds good! i couldn't find these cards in shops ANYWHERE! but yes, the above prices are based on the website which Jo mentioned.

I want to make some Christmas cards as I took some really nice snowy local shots in 'the big freeze' which I'm hoping will sell well at a local Art event later in the year.

however getting cards fully printed doesn't allow for any profit really... the best price I could find worked out at 75p/card. there's an outside chance I might still go with that, I might get a few made up just to see what the quality's like.

for these aperture cards, I'd get the the prints done 'professionally' (photobox, snapfish or the like). most of these websites offer 50 free prints, etc. when you sign up with a new account... so I might be clever and do that to get them for free!

You're welcome. It was the first site I clicked on, so just pot luck :)

I would say get samples of both from them and make up your own mind.

You may well do great with those prices, good luck! :)

hi Pukka

that's interesting thank you... hadn't thought about Costco, so will investigate!

I am printing the smaller photos aprox 60mm square so I have found you can make a 6x4 template in photoshop with a couple on (not sure if I can get 3 on) then take it to Jessops and get it printed as a normal 6x4. If I do quite a few I will get them pretty cheap per print and each one has 2 photos on.
For the small photos the quality is fine.

Might be something else to look into.
