Greengo's TP52 2016 - Week 50 & 51 Added

Week 20 - ENTRANCE

I have a young niece and she loves faerie stories etc... A friend of ours makes these little doors and we have two stuck onto trees in our garden as if they are faerie doors and the ENTRANCE to a magical world... Kids love fantastical stories and my niece loves seeing these wee doors in the garden and believes they come out at night from their magical world to tend to the flowers etc in the garden...
I hope you like my take on the theme ENTRANCE... sometimes it doesnt always have to be open to be an ENTRANCE

Entrance.jpg

Really lovely story behind the take Colin - like it. The door gives entry into a magical world at least in a child's imagination so entirely appropriate for the theme. The door is the entrance but it's closed to those without the imagination to show what's behind.

Colourful, ticks the box for the theme and keeps you up to date. I find it quite busy but that's the point!

Entrance is a great spot/idea and super story. I think shot at a slightly different time of day (the sun is just a tiny bit too hot for me on the door) it would be even more compelling but it's still nice as it is. Well done (y)

The highlights do seem a little blown to me - I agree with @pjm1 that a different time of day might have worked well. I love the subject though. A teacher at the school I work at put a fairy door outside her classroom last term. So many children, girls and boys, spent hours of their spare time writing to the fairies and were so excited at receiving replies...beats SATs for raising writing standards any day!

Great story to Entrance Colin it's a shame the light is so strong losing some of the wonderful details. I agree with @posiview regarding a tighter crop I think it would have more impact but still a great idea and shot

Hi Colin :)

Colourful - VERY colourful pots, not the most interesting for me and a tad busy... but sure fits the theme nicely so box ticked on a tough week for you :)

Entrance - Works well for me, liking the composition and the dappled light, my children would have loved something like that in pour garden when they were younger :)

Rough - I like the rainbow lens flare
Covered - I think i would have gone for a tighter crop on the jars to get rd of some of the background but I like it
Colourful - Very bold colours good find
Entrance - love the back story and the door great idea

Rough - Nice image and the worthy of the theme.
Covered - nice jam jars and, looks difficult to get the right exposure well done
Colourful - very vibrant
Entrance - cool story and good image

Week 21 - SIZE
Went on a field trip last week and managed to get out of the car and grab a few shots of this field of wind turbines... The picture doesn't really do justice to the SIZE of them but I couldn't get anywhere near them to give a scale perceptive... there is a small tree in the centre of the image which could be used I suppose but the cloud backdrop couldn't be passed up...

Week 22 - FORGOTTEN
This was a wee field trip I really enjoyed... There is an old mussel boat that lays off a harbour in Co. Donegal and it has been decaying for years... When caught with good light and dramatic skies you can get a decent pic... I wanted to experiment with HDR so caught this image to go with my theme,,,
Boat 1_2.jpg

Not usually a fan of HDR b8t you've done well for your Forgotten shot. Dramatic without being OTT. Well done.

The turbines do need a scale imo. A shot from nearer them with a wider angle perhaps, but you can only work with what you have :)

Hi Colin. Beautiful sky for Size; the tree does help give scale but we know these turbines are enormous so hard to get too close without losing some detail. Like Ian, I am not totally into HDR - some images work very well with them but only if used sparingly. You've done well with Forgotten - certainly helped enhance the colour and detail. (y)

2 Great images really like Forgotten maybe a bit OTT with the HDR but a very strong image

Forgotten,
Although I'm not normally a fan, I quite like the HDR in this instance, Colin, but I also think that it could stand a tad sharpening?

I agree about the clouds Colin, maybe going further in and losing some of the ground, nothing much there, so then the small tree, turbines and sky would be more prominent, still good sky/turbines :)

Forgotten, nice location, nor sure on the HDR on the whole image, but again nice sky, reflections and selection of boats :)

Nothing wrong with a bit of HDR occasionally. Forgotten is powerful stuff. (y)

Agree with Ian's comments on the two shots but I rather like Size as it is - yes it lacks a sense of comparison but it still works as an image for me. Not a fan of HDR and although this is a tamer version, I reckon less processing would actually make it a stronger image. But that's what having a play is all about! Well done (y)

I'm very lucky to live near the border of the Republic Of Ireland... a quick jaunt in the car and I am 15 minutes away from glorious sandy beaches and history on my doorstep... Part of that history is a medieval stone ring fort that stands intact on a hill overlooking the counties of Derry, Donegal & Tyrone...
What better subject than this "STONE" ring fort to capture for this weeks theme... I just needed the dramatic skyline to top it off...
Critique always welcome...

Stone Fort.jpg

Hi Colin, I quite like this but the wall looks slightly soft ? Might be where its hosted though. Great skyline, if i was only 15mins away I would always be there

Hi Colin I like the way the wall comes in from the left and that sky is lovely but I would tend to agree with Chris it looks a little soft. I still really like it though

Lovely image Colin - amazing sky and a nice bit of history to go with it. Well themed.

Size - The tree does give some idea of size once its pointed out.
Forgotten - I really like this one, I like the strong colours and reflections spot on theme
Stone - fantastic sky to set of the stone wall lovely shot

Hi Colin - really nice image for stone. It feels like it needs some serious straightening but that aside, you've caught a lovely scene well. I like the way you've processed the foreground subtlely to avoid going HDR. Really well handled - great job

Catch up again for me but getting in early'ish before week 26 catches up with me...
Week 24... Keeping it "SIMPLE" with a head over shot of a trumpet lily from my garden that my wife grows and takes care of each year... cracking flower in bloom...

Lily.jpg
Week 25 "SIGN(S)"... Was out cycling recently and caught this menagerie of old signs which have been used sort of artistically on a bridge near where I live...
Signs.jpg

Hi Colin

Nice shot of the lily. Really simple composition (as required) and you've captured it really well. Nicely done. Lighting inside the lily could have give it a bit more oomph, but it's nice as is.

Sign - really clever take. Well spotted and well captured.

Nice image for Simple Colin says it all for me a nice simple image.

Love the signs something a little different.
