I'm merely passing observations - a mere observation of the behaviour and activity of a certain sector of society. It's more the petty sums involved that make me laugh, to me grubbing around over a gain of under £10pw is laughable....

Whats pigeon feeding got to do with it, can you please explain?

nope but i find calling pensioners greedy for something they are completely entitled to appalling.

...but that just means hes being nice to them Neil. Greedy isnt bad, remember

like i said, to some pensioners thats a significant sum of money.

we cant all drive around nice shiny cars and live in large houses.

I said, "Is it because a pensioner once fed some pigeons near you, and you now have something against all pensioners?" Obviously not a serious question, but not one that needs explaining surely.

Companies are entitled to do this, do you find the tabloid/other posters use of the word greedy appalling too?

not sure how many times i need to say that a company is not even compilable to a pensioner.

i find the use of greedy when applied to a group of elderly people who are doing nothing wrong appalling. and fwiw i dont think using tax loopholes are wrong when nothing illegal is being done. when applied to large business it often secures local jobs too.

You're outraged...good for you....

Seems a bit much £400 is a huge amount of money for pensioners who are struggling to turn on the gas let alone feed themselves.
I fail to see how this can be compared to Amazon, Starbucks and Vodafone evading billions of pounds of tax....

Do people that have £10k to deposit struggle to feed themselves and heat their property? I doubt it.

Thats a different issue and something that probably should be addressed by government, its like other "non-means tested" items pensioners get like the Winter Heating Allowance, its often been argued that many don't "need" it as they're well enough off on their own, the idea being that more money could be distributed to those that need it. However the admin of that process would cost more than just giving the £400 to all OAP's.. its not the OAP's fault its the Government...

They might. Plenty of folk that are working struggle to feed themselves and heat their property, and they have a higher income than a lot of pensioners.
If a pensioner has worked hard all their lives and saved say £20k, but have only the state pension to live on, and dip into their savings to get by, and keep some savings for their funeral, then all of a sudden £20k to last them 20 years or so is not a lot, so every little thing that they do to help is worthwhile, and it's certainly not greedy.
I know that there will be plenty of well off pensioners also applying for bonds, but they're not doing anything wrong.

I know ISA allowances etc were put up, but I think its appalling just because people are over 65 they get to have more tax efficient savings than someone under.

Discuss.

you've just revealed your true gripe, you don't like the thought that over 65's are getting something that you can't.
That doesn't make them greedy!

Is it just OAPs that get to save £25k tax free each year whilst the rest of us make do with £15k...

On the list of injustices in the world and outrages I lose sleep over thats number 9,875 on my list.

so someone over 65 can save a few extra £ from the taxman. There really are bigger things to worry about

So why don't people who are under 65 get the same additional luxury applied to them. Is it just OAPs that get to save £25k tax free each year whilst the rest of us make do with £15k...
because they've paid taxes for 65 years?

again im failing to see anything worth getting worked up about

How can they do that?

Technically very little effects me, even the shootings in Paris, doesn't stop me having a view on it all.

I also notice, without fail, you comment on my threads.

Do pensioner bonds effect you?

Nope. I really can't walk past that.

The amount of money in question was "sweet FA" at the beginning of the thread. Now its unfair they get it. You want it too. That makes you greedy.

That, and also how through impatience/greed they've managed through sheer demand take out a website/over work a company and its staff etc.

Its like the behavior you see in Black Monday, etc and the lead up to Christmas. Just sheer impatience and greed to get a little extra off something/more back...

What do you expect though, when they were marketed on a "first come first served" basis, and that limited funds were available. Pensioners want to invest early so they don't lose out.
