Great little torch at aldi £10.99

Step away from the big boys toys, stick with the wind up kiddy toy :D

 I went back to Aldi and bought the torch and two of the keyring jobbies which are pretty good too. I must admit I'm quite impressed with the torch :D

Not so much the blister packaging though....... lethal stuff ;)

 Night vision's screwed now anyway and I can't find the winder :shake:........because...

I've just nearly blinded myself with the new torch.... It's a powerful little b****r for sure. ;)

You didn't look into it as you turned it on did you ? :D

The lens over the LED does make it a pretty concentrated beam, you'll probably be seeing a yellow square in your vision for hours ;)

That's why there's a big yellow sticker on it telling you not to look into it

You mean the "Potentially hazardous radiation to eyes"?

Didn't read that bit :( ...... Jeez! Who the **** reads H&S stuff for a torch?

Thanks for the heads up too - went out and got one at lunchtime - very impressed! My only slight gripe is that I get the impression my on/off button has "sunk in" a bit making it slightly tricky to turn on and off. But if it gets worse I noticed there was a 3 year guarantee with it.

Plenty left in the Chelmsford Aldi....you just need to fight your way through the living dead :)

Don't! Surefire reckon 60 lumens - 6P and G2 models which are designed for police/military use - is enough to temporarily blind/dazzle someone in a tactical situation, and I'm guessing this flashlight exceeds that?

I bought a pack of 3 LED torches from costco for £12, a lot brighter than my Lenser P7. Not great battery life but at £4 each they do the job.

Got to use this at work today for the first time, the light it gives is perfect for my needs, no hotspot in wide mode makes examining equipment much easier. If it wasn't for the daft sos flashing this would be a perfect tool.

Well now, if it did that!...

Apologies in advance for a potentially silly question but do LED "bulbs" get dimmer as the battery gets used up (like a tungsten bulb) or does it either work full brightness or not work?

Depends on a couple of things, but mainly whether the flashlight is regulated or not. Regulated lights deliver close to 100% output until the batteries run down, unregulated lights start to drain as soon as you switch them on, and gradually get dimmer. I haven't a clue whether the Aldi light is regulated or not, but I suspect it isn't. You usually find regulation a bit further up the price curve but, having said that, Lensers aren't cheap and they're not regulated either. That's also why Lenser only recommend alkaline cells, which have some internal resistance, and not cells using other chemistry/producing higher voltages which might fry the LED unit. OTOH, I've read a lot of posts saying people run their Lensers on lithiums without any problems.

A lot of manufacturers put out information about run times, but these can be misleading unless you have access to a performance graph, or specific light output over time at different output levels. This may, or may not, matter to you as a user.

dark evenings now working the taxi

would the Aldi illuminated the front door of a house say 100feet from the kerb sitting in the car

people call - then turn the porch light on when they come out ..:bang::bang:

From personal use, it'll easily do the job. It has a zoomable lens over the LED that allows the beam to be concentrated right down to a tight spot.

I think it would light up a house number or name as it has a beam that can be focussed. However, this torch wouldn't be my first choice for that, something like a bigger maglight would be better. These aldi torches are in my opinion, 'a big light (and a nice light) for a small torch' but not an alternative for a big torch.

For others benefit I'd advise chasing up these torches if you want one. Having impressed two or three people at work with mine (and we are used to very good light sources) they have gone chasing off to several Aldis Thursday evening and Friday and found they have sold out!

Always the case with the better deals at Aldi and LIDL, they get one delivery on the day the special starts and that's all the stock they have, once it's sold out that's it.

ROFL - so true......

When I have to make visits in the countryside, it is amazing how many homes don't bother to display a house name or number. The usual answer is "...but all the locals know where we live....."

my most teeth grinding moments are
''but you took me there last week/month..''
''all the other drivers know where we live''

''Where to Madam.?''
''the wooden houses''........:bang::bang::bang:
