Yes
It's gone! This will be the last series aired by what seems to be a struggling BBC.
I'm sure others can name more but a few programmes that come to mind that the BBC have lost over the last few years;

Formula 1
Moto GP
Not lost but no real iconic BBC sitcoms are coming through.
They sack Jeremy Clarkson and make a dogs dinner of the new series of Top Gear (although I liked it)

And now the Great British Bake Off!

The BBC do seem to be struggling with both funding and programming recently!

I was joking earlier about whether the BBC could just carry on with Bake Off under a different name?
It's a very similar format to MasterChef from what I've seen, I don't really watch that much of either though. (MasterBake was my suggested title!)
In all seriousness though there's top gear and fifth gear, similar formats on different channels.
So can't it carry on maybe with a slight change if needs be?

I also can't see channel 4 getting the viewing figures it has seen on the beeb.

This is only news to the public; the BBC will have known since day one when their option ends.
GBBO won't be gone, it'll be on Channel 4, and Love Productions will have probably written their own cheque in the process.
Personally, IMO it's just another "talent show".
Visual crack cocaine for the masses.

Its not gone gone I think its moved over to Channel 4, I read that they wanted an extra 24million and the BBC would not pay. I like it and its very popular.

Mel and Sue are leaving, so that will kill the viewing figures...

"We've had the most amazing time on Bake Off, and have loved seeing it rise and rise like a pair of yeasted Latvian baps.

"We're not going with the dough. We wish all the future bakers every success."

Interesting that Sky own 70% of Love Productions, that might help explain the price increase.

Now the shows two presenters are leaving it would appear the £25m C4 paid might not look such good value after all.

GBBO yet another let's keep the masses dumb and stupid tv prog, best gone.
I'm sure they air increasingly moronic programmes to see exactly what the British public will put up with.
Some people are so hooked on TV they literally will watch anything.
I rarely watch TV. But if I want a laugh I'll take a look at the scheduled programmes.
"I may be a celebrity in my own mind, stick me in a jungle feed me insects and watch me squirm".
Then there is the programme about people watching TV. I prefer to stare out the window and see how fast that green stuff is still growing,
and make a small bet with myself, as to when I actually need to cut it again.

I also heard that if you are watching catch up ( why would you do that?) on an iPad etc, you now need a licence to do so.

If you try to watch catch up now you get a pop up that you have to agree to saying you have a license etc. I believe.

My TV has not been switched on for months, I don't miss it.

Ah OK, I have no idea, it was something mentioned on the radio a couple of days ago, I guess just in time for the student year to start :D

I watch maybe 1 or 2 blue rays a week, or something from now TV film guide.
( my sons account so its even cheaper :D )

Correct, no matter what device you view on.
Lots of gnashing of teeth and wailing over that, I'd imagine. :D

I actually like bake off. But wouldn't stay home for it.

Perhaps the BBC required the budget to buy in Fast and Loud. Now that is a proper programme. Wow

I must be one of the dumb masses.
It does get some incredible viewing figures, but I for one certainly don't understand why.

apart from Brian Cox programmes i cant think of much i tune into on purpose on the BBC (or any other channel tbh) anymore. Once Attenborough pops his clogs that will make it even less. There are a few old radio comedies i tune into on radio4ex in the mornings but i really wouldnt mind if it went subscription or advert driven now. I just struggle to see where the billions are spent if they cant even afford 20million for a cake baking game show.

That thought crossed my mind too.

Its about time they caught up with the times TBH. Either or, and do away with the licence fee.
Broadband has various levels of subscription for light users, so why not the BBC?

Me too, I watch on iPlayer.

I must be one of the dumb masses.
Dumb and dumber :)

Ah well the labels just keep on collecting; as I was in favour of Brexit I'm not just dumb but also an uneducated bigoted racist apparantly. The irony is quite strong when those dish out those labels, isn't it just ;)

My grandmother taught me early on in life that if people resort to name calling it is purely because they haven't got a reasonable argument. Just like being in 7th grade.

I suppose we'll all have to watch the repeats, that'll keep us going for some years to come:)

I wouldn't say you are uneducated.

I'm struggling to understand how some people (you know who you are) can say the program is rubbish and then in a later post say they never watch TV!

I'm confident that I don't need to watch something that revolves around cooking to realise the sort of rubbish the programmers are trying to force *us* to watch.
Or watch someone buying a house, or selling something at auction, or having some one in to tell them their business is going down the pan, or some bride or other having a hissy fit.
This is the reason I rarely watch TV.
The content.

not being forced then.:p
Thats why I put us in ** generic us the populace at large that seem hooked on anything and everything .
:p

Not really, people watch what interests them. No-one's being forced to do anything. Just because it doesn't interest you, doesn't make it rubbish.

I watch some TV, but I know that watching someone bake a cake ain't for me.
Just as I know that watching other people watching TV ain't for me.
Not watching talent (debatable), reality, I'm a dancing celebrity on ice in the jungle coronationendersfarm programming means my TV is off FAR more than it is on.

Every show has a sell by date and pretty shrewd to get a good price whilst it is still popular, C4 did the same with Big Brother

Personally wish they wouldn't spend large amounts on presenters for news and weather. I want to know what's happening and whether it will be wet or dry, not bothered who tells me.

I called it moronic, not rubbish, the rubbish reference was to the programmings,
This and more all for the bargain price of £145.50 / year
