No
We are still referred to in some areas as Great Britain - can't help thinking that it's about time we scrubbed that. Also, if Scotland does eventually remove itself from the United Kingdom, we aren't really united any more. So what would be a realistic name for these isles?

Don't get too serious chaps, I'm posting this in a very innocent way :)

I thought it was technical (and quite simple)
Britain = England and Wales
GB = E, W and Scotland
UK E, W, S and N Ireland
British Isles = all of the above, Ireland and the Channel Islands

My point is that we can't honestly be referred to as 'Great' and we can't be 'United' if Scotland isn't there :)

Why cant we be referred to as Great?

I know what you were aiming at; it's just that it was based on a misunderstanding, a debate designed around a false set of premises.

The 'Great' just means 'larger than' as it's an expansion of Britain. And should Scotland decide to leave, we'll need a whole new set of names. There'd still of course be a 'United Kingdom' but it wouldn't contain Scotland.

There's no "Britain" other than the Great one, unless things have changed since school. (Though that was a while ago.)

This covers it quite nicely.

The "Great" bit might be even more so, if those wishing to quit, actually grow a pair and do it. ;)

Almost exactly 100 years ago, social media was buzzing with ideas about what the United Kingdom should be called if and when Ireland gained independence. The result turned out to be.... the United Kingdom.

Slightly smaller Great Britain ,or if boris ousts Theresa perhaps BJ island ,interpret the BJ however you want :exit::exit::exit:

"............................interpret the BJ however you want"

Boris Johnson - Bloody Joke!

There is Grande Bretagne and Petite Bretagne. We (the UK) are Grande Bretagne and Brittany in France is Petite Bretagne. We are the big place where Britons live and Brittany is the small place where Britons live.

Did none of you do either history or geography at school?

But Scotland is still there and not leaving anytime soon.

Maybe that's the way it rolls in France.........

What a load of LA BAULES :wave:

There is more chance of the Edinburgh zoo panda going back to China and Salmond + Sturgeon being put in the cage in lieu.

We are shortly to be voluntary outcasts from the EU.
so "offshore outcasts" will suffice... and every one will know what is meant.

If Scotland wants independence they should just allow the English to vote in the referendum, I suspect they would be on their own quite quickly if they did. :banana:

I am English and voted in the last referendum
