btw nice camera strap, i want one

Could you share the raw file from that shot if you have it?

It looks quite nice, the bokeh is pretty smooth too :)

 the raw file? do you mean the exif? not sure tp will accept raw uploads ;)

However, exif - iso200, 1/400, f5 @ 420mm [300mm + x1.4] - i will be posting plenty more shots from this lens at various settings over next few weeks no doubt ;)

Thankyou for comments guys, I plan on giving this piece of kit plenty of use and really enjoying it :D

Hope you have lots of fun with your new lens. I look forward to seeing the results.
Next thing you will be building a hide!

Well you don't have to host it on TP.
I use rapidshare.com for sharing raw files with a friend and it works fairly well for that.

That looks really impressive LL ... ... and I thought at first you had sprayed your D200 grip to match the new lens ...

Now get out there and enjoy ... ;)

:p

Well done LL. You just need a gimbal head now to make the most of it. ;)

Looks like you've given the bird a wash and blowdry:lol: He/she looks ready for a bird night out on the tiles!

Lovely shot, crisp detail

Cheers, Mark

Bought from the good people here at TP in a group buy thing. Not sure if there are any left but Marcel might be able to help.

I have waited for some 18mths for a good quality long zoom due to problems with funding that kept getting delayed, so I know how you feel. :(

Women have always told me size doesn't matter. They've obviously been leading me on... that's HuuuuGE!

Looking good, do you need a bigger bag now? :)

Have fun with your new toy.

Thanks, and no, it will fit on my mighty back pack, or it has its own case with strap if I want to take smaller bag.

I saw a Canon version of this massive object the other day (one of StewartR's) and it started me wondering if this, with a x1.4 might be better than a Canon 100-400 ?

Looks like you will be having fun with it this weekend :)

Thanks - not sure how it compares to 100-400 as Nikon dont really do anything similar, but Stewart would be the man to ask. I bought this after hiring his and deciding I prefered it to a Nikon 70-200VR [having hired one of those a couple of times pre-stewart/nikon days from calumet]

Yes, it focuses a little more slowly with the TC fitted, but I was warned that would be the case, but IQ seems to be almost identical to lens on its own. Of course the TC drops the f2.8 to F4 but that still isnt to be sniffed at. Having said that if I could have got a fast Nikon 100-400, that may well have been my choice.

Define "better"....?

The Sigma with a 1.4x is 170-420mm f/4
The Canon is 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6

The Canon focuses faster, has IS, a wider zoom range, and is much lighter.
The Sigma has a faster aperture.
Image quality ... Don't know, but I generally prefer not to put TCs on zooms.

I'd go for the Canon any day, unless I was sure that (a) the light would be poor, and (b) my subjects would be moving. That's where the f/4 of the Sigma would have its advantage.

Thanks Stewart, I will have to keep thinking a bit longer about this. Most of my subjects are generally moving. I tried out a friend's 100-400 the other day and got a few reasonable shots but soon went back to my 70-200 2.8 IS which got some good shots - maybe because I know it better but I think the 2.8 helped as I was in shade under trees.

WOW

You must be so chuffed :D

You only need a second mortgage now to buy the filters.........

:D

Here's one of mine using the same lens on a Canon 40D, capturing a 400mph Jet side on.

Pin Sharp :)
