Graphics Tablets

i havent tried a trust one but i wager the wacom is better, i have tried a few brands through the years and never swapped, the button will hardly ever be used anyway (well thats my preference but i always forget i have em)

Thanks for the response. Think ill swap to the Wacom as there recommended by everyone.
Even that is £7 cheaper than the Trust one. So ill be a winner all round

I've just got a Bamboo and it's great! I took to it very quickly. Maybe a little small for really detailed stuff but as a first tablet it is perfect from what I can see so far...

Anyone buying a graphics tablet right now would be mad to not consider the Genius G-Pen M712 tablet.

  • Widescreen (30.5 x 18.4cm drawing surface)
  • 34 user-programmable buttons and 2 scroll wheels (versus the Intuos3's 10 and 0)
  • Drawing resolution of 4,00lpi (as opposed to the A3 Intuos3's 5,081 lines per inch)
  • 1,024 levels of pressure sensitivity (same as the Intuos3)
In fact all it doesn't have is the pen angle sensitivity and eraser-tipped pen that the Intous offers. But for under £100 against the £280 of the Intous3 I don't think you can argue.

Just got one today £76 from Misco, thanks for the heads up

Haven't had time to do anything other than plug it in and test it, but it seems to be pretty damn good for the money.

Just tried the Bamboo after swaping it with the trust and it feels better.
Gald I made the change.

I have a trust version, now I can draw quite well with pencil and paper but with the tablet it looks like I have a bad case of DT's how long does it take to get used to these things or is mine just a crappy version?

I use an Intuos A5-wide. I love it! I think if I knew what I do now though I'd probably have opted for the non-wide version to minimise the hand movements from one side of the screen to the other. Minor niggle though for what is an excellent product imo.

I use a Wacom Bamboo and put my mouse in the bin, i would never go back, thay are so much faster imo

I have found the Bamboo a fair bit easier to draw with TBH. The one thing I did like about the trust was the shortcuts all around the edge but easier drawing would be my preference every time.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but can someone explain the differences between the Intuos 4 and Intuos 3 please, am loooking at buying a tablet and see that Wacom have some "3"s in the used bin at quite reasonable prices

oled's which are customisable against the buttons so you'll always remember what you configured them as and 2048 pressure levels sensitivity versus 1024 with the Intuos 3 - but to be honest I was using a 3 before the 4 and it's a great tablet. If the price is good I'd definitely consider it.

I have a 3 and there is not much difference really.

Thanks for the replies, my main concern is that the "used" ones on offer are likely to be ex demo from reselling stores that have been returned, i spoke to one of the sales staff in my local stormfront and they had a 4 rigged up for people to try and kept the pen behind the counter so you had to ask for a demo and it only lasted a week and in his words" i've been off for 2 days and they've trashed it if you come back later i will try to get it working if not it will be sent back and another put out". Ok so the used comes with a 2 year warranty but how many of them are the ones "they've Trashed""?

I'm going to add myself to the list of Bamboo users! I bought the Pen & Touch model, so I can use my finger if i'm too lazy to pick up the pen :D

I used to have a Trust tablet with an A4 sized work area, but I never really got on with it. It was too big to go comfortably on my desk beside my keyboard so it always ended up propped up on my legs against the desk!
It's still sitting in it's box under my desk actually, near enough new condition. Might stick it in the for sale section...

The Bamboo is fantastic, personally the smaller size (approx 15cm x 9cm work area) is so much nicer to use for general usage and photo editing. I don't do any illustration work, so having a small graphics tablet as a 'mouse replacement' is fantastic.

Another thing I noticed recently was that the middle finger and/or thumb of my right hand would get very cold after a while using my mouse. I tried two mice to see if the newer one had a dodgy shape or something, but I got the same symptoms. You could feel that the other fingers were warm and those two were cold. I put this down to something like RSI, because I use a mouse a lot of the day at work. Now i've switched to the Bamboo at home, I don't get the cold-ness :)

...and breathe!

No idea how they got trashed in a few days as I use mine every day and it's as good as new. They are pretty hardy things.

Second that! I've used my Intuos 3 daily for the past couple of years and it still looks like it's not long out of the box.

The Intuos 4 has as much nicer feel than the 3, and the control buttons and control wheel are the kind of thing you think "I won't really use those much..." and then within 24 hours you wonder how you ever lived without them...

The biggest improvement I have found with the v4 is the activation pressure is practically zero. I also had some accuracy issues with the v3 when making small movements when doing a lot of close-source cloning.

I have an Intuos Mk1 A4 that's going up for sale soon, have used an A6 Intuos 3 and now own a "Medium" Intuos 4, which in size terms is the same as a landscape piece of A5 paper, with another inch on the end to meet the widescreen form factor.

Absolutely love it.

I got a Bamboo for Xmas and its still in the box here!

Am waiting for the right moment to try to get to grips with it....

Tablets are fantastic for retouching, wouldn't be without one. Oversized A4 Intuos for the study, and a Bamboo Pen and Touch for the laptop.

If you do a lot of retouching, consider one essential. Speed and control is miles ahead of a mouse. Just sign your name with a tablet and a mouse for comparisons sake :¬)

i might get myself one from focus this year but most of my money is on the sony 30mm f2.8 macro first and then the camlink tppro24a tripod, then only then will i get myself my graphics tablet.

Well i have taken the plunge and ordered a used Intuos3 A3 wide Tablet direct from Wacom, currently in transit according to UPS so fingers crossed i will have a newish toy by the weekend :bonk:

I am also planning to get one of these but im slightly confused as to which one to get. What is the difference with the normal wacom bamboo and wacom bamboo fun tablets?

The 'Fun' includes Photoshop Elements and Corel Photopaint Essentials. So the extra cost depends on whether you'll want those or not.
