Graphics Software

Does anyone know of any free software that I can use to create graphics for a website. I used to use PS but no longer subscribe. It's just to update those on the wife's website so no real point in shelling out for something that is only going to be used briefly.

Blender is supposed to be excellent.
I installed it on a whim a long time ago, but I'm ashamed to admit I failed to follow through and learn more about it.

It's a steep learning curve, but is a fully featured graphic design tool....and it's free!

If you're after something similar to PS and free, you could do a lot worse than GIMP.

Try Inkscape for creation of vector graphics.

Well, I'm not having a lot of luck here. Downloaded Gimp but, when I try to install it, I get the following



Then, when I click on Open, it disappears and isn't in Applications.

Then I downloaded Inkscape but when I open it, it asks me where XQuartz is!

Looks like you're on a Mac.

I'm on a pc, so all I did was download the .exe setup file, and install.

I'm sorry but I don't have any experience with Macs.

Just been reading how to install GIMP on a Mac.

It says that you should drag the downloaded .DMG file into your applications folder and that's it.

I wish I could be more help....hopefully a Mac user will be able to advise.

Just looked into how to install inkscape too, and indeed it appears you will need to install XQuartz first.

You just need to change Security in Preferences. Usually if you get that message I think that when you go to Security it asks if you want to instal Gimp or whatever and you just click yes.

That gave me the answer, thanks. Just needed to drag the icon into the Applications folder rather than double clicking it.

Try the builds for the Mac from Partha's Place. This is the build I use (64-bit Windows in my case).
