Hi there,

I have now received my new PC (http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=419841) and installed all the relevant software on it.

Good news is, it runs a hell of a lot faster as you'd expect.

However, I just got Color Efex Pro 4 (to go with Silver Efex 2) and when I went to save a file, it said something about insufficient memory which I was surprised at...

To cut a long story short, a bit of googling suggested updating driver for GPU, but I don't have a separate graphics card, just onboad. Checked drivers at Intel and all are current.

So I'm wondering, is it worth getting a separate graphics card? Both Silver and Color Efex pro have an option to make use of GPU processing (currently "ticked" - should I untick?) so am wondering if it's worthwhile.

I don't do any gaming at all or video processing so am wondering if it's worth it, and if so, worth spending to get a good one or a regular one will be fine...

Thanks as always for your helpful advice!

cant see it being graphics memory, a message like that i would expect it to mean system memory.

definately got all 8gb showing in system properties, 64 bit OS installed and 64 bit version of software installed?

Seems to be showing all 8Gb okay.

Win7 is 64bit

Trying to find out if Color Efex Pro 4 is 64bit but struggling to find this out as it's not listed in Programs in the start menu but I can't see why it wouldn't be...

Strange...

I found the "About" section in the prog and it has x64 after the name which I think means it's the 64 bit version...

I'm guessing you've seen this post on your meanderings through google:

It's worth trying unticking the GPU processing option to see if your problem goes away. If the problem goes away and the performance is acceptable, then I guess you will be happy; if the performance is unacceptable, or the problem is still there then maybe you'll have to look at getting a graphics card. Why not try contacting Nik support with your system's details to see what they say?

Hi Charlie,

I just tried unticking it and it seemed to save okay this time. Still some issues with it not updating the loupe straight away when I add a filter (it appears when I click on the loupe) but otherwise better.

Tempted to added another 8Gb RAM though as only £40. Thoughts? Am I getting computer Gear Acquisition Syndrome or would it make a noticeable difference?

Oh, and thank you all for the advice and support - much appreciated!
