Hey,

What real difference do different graphics cards make for stills? Using CS6 and Lr and Capture One on windows 8. Is there going to be any appreciable difference whatsoever between (say) a £50 and a £100 card?

My main monitor has hardware calibration so no worries there.

Any suggestions for a card? I'd obviously rather not spend a fortune, but will spend what I need to... at least 1x DVI-D needed, it's driving a 27 and a 22" monitor.

No.. not really. You don't need a powerful card for 2D work... so long as it has enough VRAM to display your resolution, you'll be fine with almost any card. If you have a 1920x1080 screen or less.. any old piece of crap will do for still image work.

To drive both 27 and 22 as a single display, then I'd be looking at something with 2GB of VRAM... fortunately, that's most cards these days.

You say at least 1x DVI socket? You have 2 screens.. you'll need 2 DVI sockets, or DVI and Display Port. Something like a NVidia GT640 would be ideal... will do everything you want it to do with headroom, so it will remain cool and quiet.

yep, I meant as in it needs 1x dual link DVI at minimum. Thanks, I was looking at that one. Noise is quite important, I know how some cards make a good amount of buzz!

Cheers guys. Went for an asus passive cooled GT640, sure it'll do nicely.

I have the Asus GT640 - fanned version - and it works a treat with twin displays so I'm sure you'll be happy with it.
