Hi
Watching HD vid on the web and trying to view videos made on my 70D does not run smooth, also processing the raw files compared to my 40d files takes longer.
I am thinking my graphics card and/or memory are not up to it?

System
AMD 64 Pro 1.8ghz
ATI Radeon 9550/x1050 dedicated 256mb
2x1gb ram

Crucial memory scan means I have 2 spare slots so can add 2x1gb ram making a total 4gb
At Maplins I can get 2gb graphics card http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/asus-nvidia-geforce-gt610-ddr3-2gb-graphics-card-a81lg

Do I need to do both upgrades or do you think it is the graphics card mainly?
I was thinking of getting the card and see how that performs, what I don't want to do is spend money if in reality I need a whole new tower.

Save your money and replace the machine. Memory and disk access will be the first cause, processor could also do with upgrading, especially if its single-core? Graphics card doesn't have enough memory to enable hardware acceleration in Abobe CS if you are using that. Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but save the cash and change the tower when you can.

As an example, I just sold my HP Workstation Quad-Core (C2Q 9550), 8Gb of Ram, 1Gb Quadro graphics and 500Gb HD for £100, of which the graphics card you linked is £50 by itself!

Probably more to do with your CPU than the graphics card.

You would probably see a difference if you increased the RAM, but to be honest, it's getting past the time for a new PC.

Thank you Neil and Mike, you are confirming what I Suspected time to look at being in the 21st century :)

Glad I could help clarify, if you need any further assistance, just let me know! ;)

Bags of threads on here about recommended systems, usually i5 or i7 with 16 or more gig of RAM, HDDs and a couple of SSDs.

Cheers Mike will have to do a search

I'm starting to think my 6 year old system is starting to flag a little..

AMD X2 5200+ Athlon, 2GB Unmatched RAM, but an AMD Sapphire HD6950.. Running 64Bit Windows 8

It's fine, but overheats like a madman when I try 9 or more photos to stack..

I'm thinking of getting a Motherboard/RAM/CPU bundle of eBay or eBuyer.. One i'm looking at right now is under £150, with 8gb RAM..

My PSU, HDDs, and Sound card are fine, but I could do with a bit more zing!

Going to be next option, motherboard bundle as I think probably cheapest option, need to a bit more homework first though :)
