My old desktop PC needs a new mobo, CPU, memory & graphics card. My budget is limited and for a good mix of VFM & performance, I'm looking at a Z77-chipset socket-1155 mobo with a G620 or G840 CPU (due to availability from the stores I'm looking at) and a Geforce GT 440 graphics card. The mobo manual states:
Slots
1x PCIe 3.0 x16 slot, PCI_E2, it supports up to PCIe 3.0 x16 speed
1x PCIe 2.0 x16 slot, PCI_E4, it supports up to PCIe 2.0 x4 speed
2x PCIe 2.0 x1 slots
3x PCI slots
The graphics card listing states:
Compatible Slots 1 x PCI Express x16
Width Single Slot
The last time that I put a PC together with a separate graphics card, AGP slots were all the rage. What's worrying me is that if I can't put the card into the PCIe 3.0 x16 slot, will the card work in the PCIe 2.0 x16 slot given that it only supports x4 speed? This probably sounds like a worryingly numpty question
