Do we have any racing enthusiasts on here?

Does anyone have any tips for this weekends big race?

It's about the only thing I ever bet on and I never know what to go for.

My tip is 7-1 creasote, its great over fences!:D

Sorry ill get my coat.

AP McCoy is looking for his first National Win so his ride,'Don't Push It' must be in with a shout.
My other bet is Black Apalachi at 12/1.

Only one winner in horse racing though.................The Bookie

Get a list of all the runners. Put all the names in a hat and pull 3 out. From the others, pick 3 names you like. From what are left, stick a pin in 3 times.

Whack a quid or so on each nag (each way), a grand (national) tot(e)al of £18 - enough to keep you interested in the race but not enough to empty your wallet. If any of the bets wins (*or places), consider it a bonus. Alternatively, see if you can find a couple of sweepstakes and buy a few horses in them.

Most importantly, DON'T risk money you can't afford to lose, David700's quite right about the real winners.

Don't forget 'Dirty Carpet' @ 15-2. Never been beaten

 x 2

Tricky Trickster & Black Apelachi are the two im going for, lets wait and see!

Following on from my post above,my daughter went to Ladies Day,yesterday.
First time at the Races, but she came away with a bitter pill, when she found out 2 horses had died at the meet.

She says she wont be going again,if horses die/are put at risk for the sake of entertainment.
Made me think twice about placing a bet now.

I went to ladies day too, I am opening an orange tan shop next year............jeesh, have women no mirrors in their houses.

Any one know how much the wife stands to get back from a £5 each way bet on don't push it?

I'm not going to hear the end of it my horse came 5th.

I wanted to back Norfolk Enchant (say it fast) but it wasn't running this year

Well it won at 10/1 so £50 back (plus stake) for the win portion and then an amount back for the place, depending on the bookie that you bet with - so 1/4 the odds would give £12.50 for the place (plus stake) or 1/5 the odds would give £10 for the place (plus stake).

That's presuming that she bet at Starting Price odds, although if she bet earler in the day at ante - post price she might have got longer odds (and therefore a bigger return) as it was 20/1 at many bookies in the morning.

Thanks for the answer superpippo we don't bet often enough to understand how the odds work just a £5 each way on the national each year and then only because all we have to do is tick a couple of boxes on a form and hand it over with the cash.

Not sure what odds we got just happy with the win.

In that case you will prob get 10/1.
Cracking race though and it couldn't go to a better jockey/trainer/owner combination. You just knew when he pinged that last fence that he was not going to get beaten. I hope that you all watched it and were sick with excitement.:D

Just to say me the wife and dauthers 6yrs & 3yrs and guess who chose the winner out of all 40 horses.

you guessed it, my beautiful 3 year old.
Good lass, might get into this betting lark (not) LOL.

I gave her £2 and she turned it into £27.
Go girl.

I bet 3 horses on saturdays national .... however one of them as you probably know (King Johns Castle) was a non runner - it decided it was safer to stay put and live another day .... clever horse !

Do i get my bet back from William Hill for this horse or is it lost ?

I did not see the race so if the horse came under starters orders then you will lose your money. Best check with the bookies though as they do silly rule changes for big races. (bookies not racing rules)

Its a loser I'm afraid. It came under orders and was counted as a runner. Only Corals and a few of the internet firms were refunding money but they weren't obliged to.

I stuck a pound each way on 1 horse and fixed the odds Sat. morning and it won and I received £29.50 Yay .

Depends on your odds. Did you take the Starting Price or the odds as offered at the time of placing the bet.

If it's X/1 then the win part is £5 x X (+ your stake.) The place part is normally a 1/4 of that (+ your stake)

"My" sweepstake horse never got going!
