weekly Gramps' Photo52 2012 - Week 30 'Contrast' added

Agree that smoke shouts industry, unfortunately it does not appear to be coming from a chimney or tower. Perhaps a closer viewpoint is needed to show the source, although I appreciate this is not always possible.
Root in BW works well but the colour is a belter making the plant and root stand out.
All the clutter is part of what makes this photo handmade. Shame the owner did'nt co-operate in posing with tools in hand. Meets the theme well:thumbs:

hi Gramps

Good colours and I like the way that the boat is coming into the shot. Good composition given the limitations of the 'tent' and the bits and pieces. Would have been abonus if the builder had been sanding or polishing away - but hey you got to work with what you get.

A good take on the theme Gramps. I like the busy-ness of the shot, it adds to the handmade feel. The canopy clipping the top of the cabin is a little distracting but as you said you were shooting under restricted conditions. iain

Nice shot

The fact that it's busy works :)

I agree with everyone else. The clutter is acceptable in this shot because it's all part of it, and part of the theme:thumbs:

Root - What a fantastic take on the theme... excellent shot - Love it

Handmade - Very nice... a great busy shot that, really shows handmade in action with the mitresaw and g-clamps etc :)

Good set of pics you've got going on gramps.....good to see some crafts are still alive..

As has been said, closer would be nice. I like the way the red straps kind of funnel your eyes towards the boat.

Liking that Gramps, Nice and vivid colours. Well worth the attempt.

Hi Gramps. Super shot, Perhaps a bit busy for my liking especially in the foreground. Maybe a closer shot with a wider lens would have helped?

Very nice image this week Gramps. Yes perhaps a little busy but it works you can't always choose the environment can you. Nice subject and fits the brief well.

I like it gramps and the tools around emphasise it's hand made.

Cracking shot for handmade, especially due to the lengths at which you went to take it.

Thanks folks, all encouragement and pointers taken onboard

Hi, homemade is bag on theme and it's easy for me to make observations on the composition, namely it's quite busy. I was goi9ng to suggest a closer composition but feel that would not improve the overall momemade theme.

Cheers.

Nice addition with handmade gramps, lovely boat, I love the colour also.

Matt

Nice shot & take on the theme Gramps....busy it maybe but it's real life so yup.....good shot

This weeks theme ... money.

Lovely shot, your best yet I recon!

Like the low composition and vibrant colours. The shallow Depth of Field does it justice. Nice work Gramps

I like it though I am getting a little distracted by the red hotels in the front of the image, took me a minute to realise exactly what they were at first.

But I do like the shot, particularly the colours and vibrancy.

Hi, money, you can't beat a good game of Monopoly.

The DOF feels a little shallow for me and I'd like to see the orientation of the board rotated counter clockwise.

Cheers.

Nice shot, as above nice colours and DOF

Thanks folks, I was a bit concerned about the hotels in the foreground but in the end I decided that I liked them and any Monopoly players would recognise them. What is disappointing is the loss of clarity from original to Photobucket hosted image :(

As Alan says agree with all the comments and I agree with him on the DOF being a bit shallow I feel the red houses just confuse your eyes a bit,

Loving root.......like handmade but not quite sure about Money....Monopoly seems a bit on the green side....unless it is just me not playing Monopoly for a long time

Great shot Gramps, love the colours and shallow DoF.
Must admit I wondered how long before someone did monopoly as a money subject.

Money - good take on the theme and excellent idea.

I agree with other comment that the dof is a bit shallow for my taste and the colour of the board looks too green/ yellow on my monitor

Thanks for commenting guys, I take onboard the observations about DOF and colour. I agree that the board colour is off (low light due to circumstances - lesson learned to adjust iso).

Hi Gramps.

I don't find the hotels distracting, after all they're part of the game. I think I tighter crop on the big Monopoly name would tidy up the edges and bring the hotels further away from the money!

Is the colour a white balance issue? Have you tried tweaking it in PP? Also do you sharpen your image before uploading it to Photobucket? That may solve the quality loss:thinking:

Hi Gramps, good shot on money, was thinking of doing monopoly myself...

Hi gramps, handmade i think works because it is busy, its bang on theme and the focus is where if needs to be.

Money - i think i tend to agree that the DOF is a little too shallow, i did go to specsavers and its made my eyes go a bit funny, and the WB looks a bit off on my lappy

Industry - #2 is definitely the better one of the two

Root – I was about to say it’s a tree and then thought it’s the root that makes the difference so the title is spot on. My vote goes to the colour version.

Handmade – Pity about the tarpaulin at the top but spot on theme and the colours are nice as well

Money – Great minds think alike. I also choose Monopoly for this week’s theme

Slightly late with 'Win' due to waiting for the Bath Half Marathon - simple shot with a very happy finisher - everyone wins, the finishers, the charities, the City of Bath and all of the spectators.

Well done to all of those brave souls who took part!

'Shiny' - another from the Bath Half Marathon ... all the colour and expectation from the crowds who attended to spur on the runners.

Ah isn't it nice to see some outdoor shots of people? Spring is definitely lurking!

Win - lovely DOF, and a very natural smile. I think I would be bright purple at running 1/2 a mile!

Shiny - good candid shot, again good use of DOF, I like them both:thumbs:

like em both especially no.1 altho' he does seem to have someone's hair attached to his neck

Win - I'd be tempted to clone out the object just to the left of his neck,

Yes, I'm having problems with that, keep getting duplicate neck bits! :gag:

Of course if I use the right tool it might help!
